4 Introduction Papercraft is cheap and easy! If you ruin a project it s quickly remedied with another piece of plain white paper and a spot of glue. The templates are enormously versatile. They can be used as art projects, rainy day activities, classroom decorations, name tags for excursions, finger puppets, school signage, mural characters, gifts, story and poem starters, bulletin board trimmers and incentive rewards for good behaviour. The projects cover a range of holiday matter, level of difficulty and time required. Many of the projects can be also used to supplement other classroom study themes. The colour and cut activities will help to illustrate the theme, decorate the classroom, personalise project folders and visually reinforce the lesson. The projects are simple and the materials needed are seldom more than paper and paste. The lack of complexity means every student will have a measure of success (and every teacher a minimum of frustration). The main drawing is large and clear; this makes for easy colouring and cutting. Most copy machines can reduce or enlarge the template size for even more applications. Some children might need a trial run using scrap paper. Source this one-side paper from ads or letters that come in the post, or outdated computer print outs. Likewise, light cardboard for reinforcing is plentiful from cereal boxes, toilet rolls and other household packaging. Herb scissors, pinking shears or paper crimping devices will add a final flourish to many projects. The detail of decoration is left wide open. Photos, textas, glitter, feathers, crepe paper, bubble wrap and plastic bags will come in handy. Many projects will be enhanced by using coloured paper or even special effects paper. 5 Pop-Up Heart Card Cut out a 24cm x 15cm piece of cardboard or coloured paper and fold in half; this is the outside of the card. Colour the card insert shown and cut it out. Fold on the dotted lines so the heart folds towards you. Fit the insert inside and glue in place, careful NOT to glue the pop up heart down. Decorate the outside front of the card with coloured hearts. 4

6 Valentine Heart Colour and cut out the heart; fold in half and cut slits for weaving. Cut out the handle and matching weaving strip. Weave the handle and attach at the v of the heart. handle weaving strip handle These weaving strips are best made from coloured paper. Cut out the strips individually and weave them into the heart slits. If you make a back for this card and leave an opening at the top, you can use it for a small gift. 5

7 I Love You Card Fold the card in half and cut out the letters and heart. Decorate your card with some of the extras shown. 6
