4 The History of the Parade It is believed that Emperor Constantine ordered the first Parade. During his reign he sent out a decree ordering everyone in his town to dress in their best clothing to honor the Holy Day of. Today, all ages still enjoy getting together and parading through the streets. The largest Parade is held on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Here on Sunday, paraders wander the streets around St. Patrick s Cathedral donning various Bonnets and outfits, some quite outrageous! Cards At the end of the 19th century, it became common practice to send out postcards to relatives and friends. The card was separated into two halves. The left side was for a drawing and the right was where the address and stamp was placed. In 1905, the post office in Austria and Germany separated the back side of the cards into two halves. The right half served as before for the address and the stamp and the other one was the new space for the message. During the First World War, eggs were replaced with pictures of soldier and bunnies. After the war, colorful sketches with religious symbols became the new trend. The Second World War brought a huge reduction in postcards because of poverty. After this war, the amount of cards sent raised slowly but in the last ten years it has fallen rapidly due to the introduction of the internet.

6 Folder 2 Cut out the booklet as one shape. DO NOT CUT OFF FLAPS. Fold bottom square back, then fold back the two flaps. This will create a pocket. Glue these flaps to the back of the pocket. 8 The History of the Jelly Bean In the late 17th century, a candy called Turkish Delight was introduced. It had a gummy inside and hard candy coating like that of the jelly bean. During the American Civil War, William Schrafft of Boston began selling the candy to the Union soldiers. In 1930, the jelly bean was first released as an candy because of its resemblance to eggs. During Ronald Reagan's presidency in the 1980's, he kept a large jar of jelly beans on the cabinet room table. The essential ingredients of jelly beans include food starch, corn syrup and sugars. Jelly Beans were originally sold in eight standard fruit flavors. Over the years, hundreds of flavors have been created. Some flavors, such as earwax, booger, dirt, pepper, vomit, and worm are very popular with young children.
