1 The Barbarian Tribes that Invaded the Roman Empire Chapter 1 Cut out the title page and the full booklet on the second page. Fold the book in with two folds, with the full front piece on top and the dotted line piece inside. Cut across the dotted lines and have your child write the names of the barbarian tribes that invaded Rome on each separate flap. If desired have your child narrate something to you and write it across the two blank inside pieces that remain. Glue the middle section to your lapbook. 3 Cut out this shape as ONE PIECE. Fold on each solid line. Use the first section for your title page and the last page for gluing as marked. You will have 4-6 spaces inside for writing. (Glue here) Have your child write the key words for each chapter on each shape, and draw a picture to go with them or have them narrate a brief definition of the word for you to write down. Glue the back of the last section to your lapbook. Words to use: Bards (a drawing of a music note or a person singing) Vortigern (a drawing of a crown or of a king) Anglo-Saxons (a number seven or a rough map of the divided land) Dark Ages or Middle Ages (a drawing of a book with a X through it to show no written records) The Story of Craith (with a drawing of feet, eyes, and ears to show the warrior s gifts) Barbarians (drawings of blue painted swirls or of a Celtic barbarian) Things from Early Britain Chapter 2 Chapter 2. 5 Cut out the eight rectangles as ONE SHAPE. Follow the directions for folding and cutting a Hot Dog Book (found here). Cut out the cover of the book and glue on to the front. A Book about Monks Chapter 3 Have your child make a book about monks. Have them decorate their book with gold pens. Glue the element into the lapbook. Have them add 6 of the following points to the pages of the hot dog book: They worked as furniture makers. They made books. They were teachers. They worked with medicine. They lived in a monastery. 6 Cut out the T-shape as one piece. Fold left side in. Fold right side in. Fold top down. Cut out the cover of the book and glue on to the front. Have your child fill in the variety of things found in Constantinople, there will be room for 6. Shops, churches, palaces, people in togas, roads, schools. World Religions from the Middle Ages Chapter 7 The name of the religion goes on the front page of the matchbook. The name of the place goes on the top inside page and the name of the person goes on the bottom inside page. Answers: Buddhism, India, Buddha Islam, Mecca (Arabian desert), Muhammad Christianity, Israel (Jerusalem), Jesus There are four cover sections to cut out, three for the matchbooks which will be pasted inside the larger book and one for the large book. Your child needs to supply the following information: the three major religions that have been covered so far in volume two, the country or city that the religious originated from and the founding figure from that religion. You can use the blank ones and have your child write on them the list that follows OR use the pre printed ones and have your child simply cut them out and slide them in. The sons of the dead king of the Visigoths invited him to help them drive out Rodrigo who had taken over the throne. It was called Jabal Tariq and now we call it the rock of Gibraltar. The Islamic Empire in Spain Chapter 12 What did Tariq order his armies to do when they arrived in Spain? Who invited Tariq to Spain? They were called Moors. He told them to burn their boats because they would take over the land or die trying. Cut out large shape and fold like a W (fold like a fan so the end makes a W outline). Glue the inside section together (the dotted lines will be glued back to back). Cut along the dotted lines. Cut out the individual rectangles with the questions and answers. Glue the questions to the front flaps; glue the answers to the back flaps. Glue the large back section of the element to the inside of your lap book.
