1 Happy Camper Book Fair Entrance Instructions Supplies*: Entrance wall directions: Roll of dark blue paper Roll of purple paper Roll of brown paper Roll of dark green paper Roll of bright green paper Roll of light blue paper Stapler Spray adhesive Tape Utility knife Cardboard Meter stick Tape Silver fringe curtain Batting Star-shaped paper punch Gold glitter cardstock 8 concrete form tube Zip ties 16 gauge wire roll Twine 8 red felt sheets 8 yellow felt sheets Fabric glue 4 x 8 insulation board Green paint 65 lb. cardboard TV box 1. Cover your entrance wall and door with dark blue paper. 2. out mountains from a large purple paper roll and attach to the blue wall with spray adhesive. Roll out and tape brown paper to the floor. 3. Cover the bottom of the wall with green paper cut out to look like a sloping forest ground. Attach with spray adhesive. Page 1 of 9

2 4. out some evergreen trees from 2 x 4 pieces of cardboard. Cover the tree tops with bright green paper using spray adhesive. out a rectangular piece of cardboard for the tree trunk. Attach the completed tree to the wall with spray adhesive. (For safety purposes, we recommend wearing leather gloves when using the utility knife. Never leave the utility knife where children can pick it up.) 5. Cover a 2 x 4 piece of cardboard with light blue paper. Attach to the wall with spray adhesive. 6. out both sides of the waterfall out of cardboard with a utility knife. Attach them to either side of the blue rectangle. Attach a silver fringe curtain to the top of the blue rectangle with tape. Trim off the excess curtain on the bottom with scissors. 7. Bunch up brown paper and attach it to the brown cardboard sides with spray adhesive. Build up the paper to give the waterfall dimension. 8. Roll out the green paper on the floor. one side in a wavy pattern and glue it down to the brown paper with spray adhesive. out a small pond from light blue paper and glue it on top of the green paper at the base of the waterfall. Bunch up some batting and place it at the bottom of the waterfall. 9. out or punch out some stars from gold glitter paper. Glue the stars to the dark blue paper to fill the night sky. Page 2 of 9

3 Oak tree directions: 4 Drill Roll a 2 x 4 piece of flexible cardboard length wise. 11. Insert the cardboard roll into the top of an 8 concrete form tube. 12. Drill pairs of holes around the top of the form tube through the cardboard. Feed zip-ties through the holes and fasten. 13. Wrap a long piece of 16-gauge wire up the length of the rolled cardboard. Tape in place to keep its cylindrical shape. 14. two slits on either side of the top of the cardboard cylinder. out a 2 x 4 piece of cardboard and slip it into the slits. 15. out varying lengths of wire. Tie one end to the coiled wire around the cylinder, pierce the other end through the cardboard rectangle, and tape it down to the back. Page 3 of 9

4 16. Wrap the wires with bunched up and rolled brown paper, creating branches. Glue and tape the paper in place. 17. Cover the tree trunk with bunched up brown paper. Glue in place with spray adhesive. 18. Make a stack of four to five 24 green paper squares. Fold the combined sheets of paper accordion style, making sure each fold is about 1.5 wide. Keep all the sheets of paper together as you fold, and continue until you run out of paper. Wrap a pipe cleaner around the center of the flowers at the crease so the paper is held securely, and then twist the ends together to form a knot. 19. Unfold the flower. Starting with the top or bottom, fanning out the paper so that no sheets are stuck together. Feel free to tear the sheets into smaller sections to look like individual leaves. 20. Fill up the surface of the cardboard rectangle with the leaf bunches. Drill pairs of holes throughout the board and feed the ends of the pipe cleaners through the holes and tie in the back. 21. a long length of rope that spans the length of space between the two tree tops, including extra for tying the ends. Create red pennants out of sheets of red and yellow felt that spell out BOOK FAIR. Attach the pennants to the length of rope by folding the top edge around the rope and gluing in place with hot glue. Tape both ends to the wall so that the pennants are hanging over your entrance. Page 4 of 9

5 Pine tree directions: On a 4 x 8 insulation board, draw out seven 2 wide isosceles triangles. out all seven with a utility knife and meter stick. 4 Glue 23. Combine the two 1 triangular ends together with hot glue, as shown. You should now have eight triangles in total. 24. Draw three horizontal lines, sectioning off the triangle into four 1 sections Draw two lines from the top to 6 inwards of either side. 26. where indicated by the red lines above. 27. Repeat step 26 on all eight triangles to get the tree shape shown. Page 5 of 9

6 x4 x4 28. Separate the trees into two groups of four. out a slit the thickness of the insulation board as indicated in the diagram above, with the first slit going from the bottom of the tree to the midpoint, and the second slit going from the top to the midpoint. 29. Take one panel of each group and slide the pieces together at the slit. The tree should now stand on its own. 30. Paint the tree green. Page 6 of 9

7 Monument sign directions: 1. Remove the smaller box from inside the 65 lb. cardboard TV box. 2. Cover the smaller box in spray adhesive and wrap in brown paper to cover the holes. Paint the covered box dark brown. 3. Turn the large box over so the opening is facing up. With a utility knife, cut out a window on both sides, as shown. 4. Paint the cut box to look like stone with gray and white paint. When dry, insert the brown box into the stone box. 5. Print and cut out the text on pages 8-9. Glue them to the brown box, as shown. *Remember, these are only suggestions. This project should be fun and creative, so use supplies you have on hand for substitutions. Page 7 of 9
