3 ABSTRACT This paper intrduced a secure cmmunicatin infrastructure fr synchrnized frequency mnitring netwrk (FNET) using a number f GPS-time synchrnized Frequency Disturbance Recrders (FDRs) deplyed a crss part f the 500kV/220kV Egyptian pwer grid VPN tunnels are used t prvide secure cmmunicatin channels between FDRs and the remte cntrl center ver public telecmmunicatin infrastructure (Internet)

4 INTRODUCTION Wide-area mnitring systems (WAMSs) utilizing synchrphasr measurements can help with understanding, frecasting, r even cntrlling the status f pwer grid stability in real-time Frequency Disturbance Recrders (FDRs) are pwer system devices that prvide synchrnized measurements f real-time frequency, phase angle, and amplitude f a single phase vltage surce FDRs are becming an imprtant element f wide area measurement systems used in advanced pwer system mnitring, prtectin, and cntrl applicatins Unlike traditinal PMUs, the FDR based Frequency Mnitring Netwrk (FNET) is an Internet based, GPS Synchrnized wide area Netwrk deplyed at the distributin level, prviding a lw-cst and easily deplyable WAMSs slutin.

7 OPTIMAL PLACEMENT OF FDR DEVICES The best pssible lcatins f FDRs in the pwer grid must be decided befre the installatin prcess Harmny Search (HS) algrithm is ne f the recent techniques used fr ptimum selectin f FDRs lcatins HS algrithm frmulates the ptimal FDRs placement prblem t minimize the number f FDRs installatin subject t full netwrk bservability and t maximize the measurement redundancy at the pwer system buses Several factrs are cnsidered t ensure full netwrk bservability; such as the available data frm existing cnventinal measurements, the number and lcatins f zer injectin buses, the number and lcatins f installed FDRs

8 FDRs DEPLOYMENT ON THE EGYPTIAN POWER GRID Five lcatins are selected and five FDRs will be installed t prvide a pilt architecture fr FNET netwrk in the Egyptian pwer grid FDRs are pwered by the utput vltage frm the vltage transfrmer in each substatin (100 vlt phase-t-phase)

10 PROPOSED FNET ARCHITECTURE FOR EGYPTIAN POWER GRID Electrical parameters measured by the five FDRs are transferred thrugh Internet VPN tunnels and cllected remtely in the cntrl center that cnsists f: Data Cncentratr Server (DCS): Cllecting the measured data and perfrming time alignment using time stamp Perfrms quality checks n the measured data and inserts apprpriate flags Checks disturbance flags and recrds files f data fr analysis Mnitrs the verall measurement system and prvides a display and recrd f Perfrmance

11 PROPOSED FNET ARCHITECTURE FOR EGYPTIAN POWER GRID Real time applicatin server: Equipped with real time mdules like frequency interface, frequency event trigger, event lcatin mdule, scillatin detectin mdule, and scillatin alert mdule Nn-real time applicatin server: Runs sme applicatins like event visualizatin and web service Data strage server: Stres all prcessed data by ther servers and als the transmitted data frm FDRs sensrs as a backup

12 CONCLUSION The expected general deliverables frm the prpsed FNET system are: Imprvement in the perfrmance f the Egyptian pwer grid frm the reliability, security and stability viewpint Reductin in the risk f the grid frm the blackut and system failure On-line pwer and prtectin applicatin techniques Reductin the risk f catastrphic large area disturbances in systems Reliable pwer system with increase in the system generatin Design early dynamics detectin and crrective actins mnitring system Prvide ecnmical slutin fr the large scale grid Increasing the system selectivity and sensitivity
