The measurement devices which are used for custody transfer require a metrological approval The national metrological authorities require often to verify frequently the accuracy of the devices in accordance to national rules or standards The period for the verification differ from the device types and as well as from country to country even in countries which are belong to the European Union If a device exceed the given limits for the maximal permissioned errors at operation conditions the devices have to recalibrated While an Volume Converter can be verified and recalibrated at site a meter has to be removed in any case and check in an approved calibration lab A combination of a meter and an EVC makes sense if the verification period for the combined device will not be reduced significantly!

10 Does MID in Europe support this approach? Can we benefit from the Measuring Instruments Directive? The Measuring Instruments Directive 2014/32/EU is a directive by the European Union, which seeks to harmonise many aspects of legal metrology across all member states of the EU. [1] Its most prominent tenet is that all kinds of meters which receive a MID approval may be used in all countries across the EU. For gas meters and volume converters this directive is effective for residential, commercial and light industrial use. The MID is effective until the meter and volume converters are placed on the market and/or put into use!
