5 COMPACT FIRE CONTROL SYSTEM Totally new and digital Fire Control System, primarily designed for the Light / Medium MBTs where the main design criterion is to keep the MBT in battle to the maximum extent, provides perfect day and night target engagement thanks to the superior image quality of Gunner s and Commander s Periscopes as well as accurate stabilization, target ranging and aiming with high accuracy. Fire Control System is actually comprised of two independent, superior performance Sighting Systems packed with the same sub-units and assemblies to increase logistic support and decrease spare part reserve levels and maintenance costs. Each Sighting System includes a high resolution thermal camera, day camera and eye-safe laser range finder alongside with stabilized head mirror. The thermal cameras of the Fire Control System with novel image processing algorithms provide longer range target engagement on extreme weather and mission conditions. This distinguishing property that most of the modern MBTs do not have grants see before seen philosophy. 6 NEXT GENERATION LIGHT/MEDIUM MAIN BATTLE TANK UPGRADE SOLUTIONS TURRET MISSION COMPUTER Turret Mission Computer is one of the critical sub-units of the Next Generation Light/Medium MBT Solution due to its vital role of supplying communication with different systems and as well as accomplishment of various control functions. This unit is designed to manage different processing efforts such as Remote Weapon Station, C4I etc. In addition, Turret Mission Computer is comparably similar with Fire Control Computer to reduce system complexity and logistic costs, as well as to overcome obsolescence problems. Thus, it provides an important advantage in logistics and support. Furthermore, Turret Mission Computer s digital communication buses which directly connect different sub-systems to each other grant the digital turret infrastructure of the Next Generation Light / Medium MBT Solution and provide growth capabilities for further functions such as data storage, mission records, diagnostics etc. ELECTRICAL GUN TURRET DRIVES In order to achieve high First Round Hit Probability on moving tank scenarios, Line of Sight and Line of fire (main gun) needs to be accurately stabilized and decoupled from the MBT movements. In this context, high-tech, low-power consumption and lower maintenance attained Electrical Gun Turret Drives based on the most modern control technology is involved in Next Generation Light / Medium MBT Solution. These drives are designed specifically for lighter turrets for enhanced reliability of whole MBT to achieve excessive lethality. 7 REMOTE WEAPON STATION Remote Weapon Station enables the Light / Medium MBT to defend itself against air and ground attacks and also can be used in urban areas against asymmetric warfare. Depending on warfare requirements, Remote Weapon Station can be equipped with different types of ammunitions; in general 7.62 mm machine gun is installed to MBT. Remote Weapon Station operates coupled to the Fire Control System for enhanced performance. The command and control of Remote Weapon Station shall be achieved by the Commander. Remote Weapon Station provides effective firing capability in day, night and severe weather conditions by the help of thermal camera, laser range finder and TV camera. Cooled or uncooled thermal imagers are included depending on customer requirements. 8 NEXT GENERATION LIGHT/MEDIUM MAIN BATTLE TANK UPGRADE SOLUTIONS COMMAND AND CONTROL SYSTEM (C4I/BMS) C4I/BMS is a Mission Support and Information System used by all levels from single tank to tank battalion level, based on authorization, for the purpose of operation planning, execution, control and monitoring. C4I/BMS supports the Commander in situational awareness, collaborative planning, fast and precise decision making and provides operational flexibility. With the use of C4I/BMS, the objective is to enable all units and systems to participate in the battlefield with a faster tempo, achieving information dominance over the enemy and conducting decisive operations. To accomplish this mission, C4I/BMS coordinately exchanges data with Fire Control System and Remote Weapon Station. 10 NEXT GENERATION LIGHT/MEDIUM MAIN BATTLE TANK UPGRADE SOLUTIONS LASER WARNING SYSTEM Laser Warning System is a state-of-the-art threat warning system to detect, classify, identify and give warning of laser threats aiming on the platform. Laser Warning System can detect and classify any laser source directed to Light / Medium MBT and warn the commander/gunner. Laser Warning System is designed to detect almost all of types of the laser threats available in the world military inventory. Laser Range Finders (LRF), Laser Designators (LD) and Laser Beam Riders (LBR) threats operating on various optical bands can be detected by the system. Laser Warning System is closely integrated to the Fire Control System, so that the Commander s and/ or Gunner s Periscopes together with the main/ secondary weapon shall automatically slew to the threat direction detected by the Laser Warning System, and enable the gunner and/or commander to immediately engage on the hostile force. Situational Awareness System provides close range situational awareness to the MBT under severe weather and harsh battlefield conditions at day and night. 360 Panoramic view based on IR/TV Video Display of Camera Images Individually Full Screen Image Display from Specified Camera Displaying all the Camera Images Adjacently Covering 360 View Full Integration with Fire Control System and Remote Weapon Station Necessary Infrastructure for Motion Detection and Crew Warning In the case of threat detection, Situational Awareness Systems warns the user and automatically or manually steers the Remote Weapon Station and/or Fire Control System to the threat direction.
11 INERTIAL NAVIGATION SYSTEM (INS) Velocity (north, east, down), position (grid or geodetic) and attitude (roll, pitch, heading) of the Light / Medium MBT can be continuously calculated using the acceleration and angular rate information from the inertial measurement system. With the capability of close integration with C4I/BMS, INS assists the crew to accurately accomplish movement planning and route analysis on battlefield environment. This tactical advantage brings high operational flexibility by combining the navigation data with the digital map. In addition, the integration of INS with Fire Control System improves the real-time calibration of the Fire Control System s sensors that are used in stabilization. This feature is an essential attribution since real time gyro drift compensation is made automatically and accurate dynamic lead is obtained which leads enhanced stabilization accuracy. Besides, integration with FCS by using the range information of target provides accurate coordinates of the threat for indirect fire purposes. The aforementioned systems can be integrated to the Light / Medium Main Battle Tanks in full-configuration or separately upon customer requirements. ASELSAN provides system performance guarantee after integration of all systems keeping the MBT platform operational with additional features. The Digital Turret built up by modern ASELSAN electronics and electro-optical systems spreads the Next Generation Light / Medium Main Battle Tank Upgrade Solution to the top position in the world. NEXT GENERATION LIGHT/MEDIUM MAIN BATTLE TANK UPGRADE SOLUTIONS INS gives position information in geographic coordinate system, military grid reference system (MGRS) or UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) according to the user selection. TURRET POWER DISTRIBUTION UNIT Turret Power Distribution Unit supplies electrical interface and the required controlled power between the Light / Medium MBT and the systems that are integrated on the MBT such as Fire Control System, Remote Weapon System and Command & Control System as well as the required controlled power for the system units. This intelligent Turret Power Distribution Unit contributes the efficiency of energy distribution as well as crew warning in case of a failure etc. The unit also enables the crew to view the MBT battery voltage level. Thanks to its spare power outputs, this unit shall also have a built in growth potential. Furthermore, Turret Power Distribution Unit is equipped with appropriate over-current protecting devices granting full battlefield performance in all condition, while providing all of necessary regulated power.
