The Salvation Army The Johnson County Fair Parade rained out yet spirited volunteers ready on Saturday, August 5th! The team stood wet and ready to marshal the County Fair Parade that had not been rained-out since conception in 1936, but it was a no go! Steve Rainey WDØDPB coordinated this event, alone with The
Moonlight Bike Ride event which was also rained-out! Rainey it was. Radio volunteers included Bill Gery KA2FNK, Bill KDØGUS, Bradley KUØFAN, Ray KØRSE, Mike KDØCDQ, Terry WØTLC, Duane WAØBVX, Jay NØTRI, Brian KBØZWA, Tony KDØBNY, Steve WDØDPB, Jim Andera KØNK (above in no special order). The Sunflower to Roses Charity Bicycling Event was a go on Sunday, August 6th! The Salvation Army Communications Vehicle, back in service, with Mike Billquist WØMAB at radio net control (right). And away the bicyclists let go on their own spirits on rides of 35, 52 or 62 miles. Note Steve Lester KDØEKS Coordinator in bright tee shirt (below). Radio volunteers included Brad Kelsey KUØFAN, Ray Erlichman KØRSE, Tim Thompson KEØNQG, Heather Brannan KDØWRW, Betty Nieznay KDØDYK, Jay Smith NØTRI, Bobby Brannan KDØSYR, Leslie Pratt KDØCMB, Richard Fretwell WØKRF, John Capra KDØEVM, Tony Berry KDØBNY, Duane Haverty WAØBVX, Mike Asselta KDØCDQ, Terry Constant WØTLC, Loren Mead KBØYME, and Brian Whitlock KBØZWA.
Did you miss the ARES/SATERN meeting Monday, August 14 th? We need to attend the meetings to keep us an informed team. Please, attend September 11th at 7pm. Yes, 9/11. NET CONTROL & RELAY STATIONS WERE NEEDED ON MHz ON MONDAY, 21 AUGUST Z to 2200 Z SATERN operators contacted Net Manager Ken Gilliland (AG6SV) at AG6SV@ATT.net. SATERN activated the International SATERN SSB Net on MHz at a DELTA II status from 1400 Z to 2200 Z on Monday, 21 August This was to support the American Red Cross and the ARRL which activated numerous local units of both organizations in the path of eclipse totality nationwide. The concern was that the millions of people - estimated to be about 7.5 million - flowing into the narrow path of totality across the United States may result in an overload and disruption of the normal communications infrastructure. ARES supported the American Red Cross with communications locally and use the International SATERN SSB
Net as a national communications path for long-range communications to American Red Cross regional and national headquarters. Mike Asselta KDØCDQ served as Solar Eclipse net control 2000 to 2100 UTC, National MHz. Bill Gery KA2FNK (pictured left with our Communications Vehicle) joined SATERN members Tony Berry KDØBNY, John Capra KDØEVM, Brad Kelsey KUØFAN, Herb Fiddick NZØF, Diana Fiddick KDØOBP, Ted Knapp NØTEK, Steve Lester KDØEKS, Steve Rainey WDØDPB, Brian Whitlock KBØZWA, Mike Asselta KDØCDQ and others on August 27th. Hurricane Harvey response Salvation Army locations in Houston and the surrounding areas are providing shelter, food, and clothing in response to dramatic flooding in the city. On Sunday (8/27) afternoon in both Pasadena and Texas City a number of people were transported to The Salvation Army in the back of dump trucks having been rescued from rapidly rising flood waters. Texas Division EDS Director Alvin Migues reports that numerous mobile kitchens and feeding units have been moved to forward staging areas in southern Texas. The Salvation Army mobile kitchens are one of the first response vehicles to arrive on the scene following a disaster. Our trained staff and volunteers will be ready with a hot
meal, a snack and a cup of coffee or bottled water for first responders and survivors. Southern Territory SATERN Net Activating For Hurricane Harvey. Contact Net Manager at D5XJ@ARRL.net The Salvation Army National Headquarters Nets The INTERNATIONAL SATERN SSB NET is on MHz on Monday through Saturday at 11:00 AM (ET) / 10:00 AM (CT), 0900 (MT), 0800 (PT).
