4 1 Introduction The purpose of this engineering design standard is to provide designers and installers with the necessary technical and practical information to enable the use of the new design of 11kV triplex cable in UK Power Networks. 2 Scope This document only covers the five main types of triplex 11kV cable supplied by one of the following cable manufacturers: Cabelte (Portugal); Nexans (France, Greece and Turkey); NKT Cables (Denmark); Solidal (Portugal). The standard sizes are as follows: 95mm 2 aluminium conductor triplex XLPE cable with a 58mm 2 aluminium wire screen and a red PE outer sheath; 185mm 2 aluminium conductor triplex XLPE cable with a 115mm 2 aluminium wire screen and a red PE outer sheath; 185mm 2 copper conductor triplex XLPE cable with a 115mm 2 aluminium wire screen and a red PE outer sheath; 300mm 2 aluminium conductor triplex XLPE cable with a 115mm 2 aluminium wire screen and a red PE outer sheath; 300mm 2 copper conductor triplex XLPE cable with a 115mm 2 aluminium wire screen and a red PE outer sheath; Note: All the above are also available as single core cables with a low smoke zero halogen sheath for installation in cable tunnels, basements, etc. 3 Glossary and Abbreviations Term Al Cu UK Power Networks Definition Aluminium Copper UK Power Networks (Operations) Ltd consists of three electricity distribution networks: Eastern Power Networks plc (EPN). 5 4 Standard Drum Details The new range of 11kV cables will only be available from UK Power Networks Logistics Cable Management in the following full drum lengths: Size and Standard Drum Length (m) UK Power Networks Stores Code 95mm 2 aluminium P 185mm 2 aluminium K 185mm 2 copper E 300mm 2 aluminium U 300mm 2 copper P 5 Current Table for Triplex Cables This table provides a guide to the current ratings for triplex cables. All the ratings quoted are s for 1 single triplex cable only and are in accordance with Engineering Recommendation P17. For copper wire screened triplex cables the ratings for aluminium wire screened versions shall be used. The MVA ratings are for a three-phase supply. s for multiple cable circuits should be calculated individually.
