3 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this composition is to introduce the instruments of the band to audiences, particularly of elementary school age. The work is written in the style of a theme and variations. Each variation is intended to display the musical characteristics of a musical instrument or instruments. As the narrator introduces each group of instruments, the players should stand and display the instruments so that the audience will learn to recognize the instruments by sight and sound. The composition may be performed without the narration if so desired. Clayton G. Furch
