1 Blue Light Brand Guidelines Phase 1 The Logo Fostering positive youth and community relationships
2 Introduction Blue Light has grown rapidly in the past 30 years and the charity should be very proud of its heritage and legacy. As we look towards the next 30 years the organisation must work together to strengthen and build the Blue Light brand to ensure it becomes the leading charity providing events which empower young people, build strong communities and lead to fewer young people being a perpetrator or victim of crime. We all have a crucial role to play in strengthening the Blue Light brand. To do this we need to be consistent in the way we use the Blue Light name and logo. These logo guidelines are guiding principles that are designed to help us present Blue Light in a consistent way across all communication materials.
3 The Logo The Blue Light Logo consists of the Blue Light logo and strap line Empowering Youth. The logo is predominantly used on white and light backgrounds. However there is a version for use on dark backgrounds and imagery (see page 4). Logo Rules The Blue Light logo ALWAYS appears with a solid white centre and drop-shadow inside the oval with the exception of embroidery. The Blue Light logo ALWAYS appears as PMS 2738c Blue or C100/M87/Y0/K2 on white background or with white outline and solid white centre on a coloured or patterned background. Please always use these colours to reproduce the logo. Extra Note: The Blue Light name should ALWAYS be used as two words.
4 The logo View 1 This logo is a flattened RGB file. This is for use on most documents; Word, PowerPoint etc. Logo appears as a white rectangular box so should only be used if there is a white background, or where a white boxed logo is appropriate to make the logo stand out. PLEASE NOTE this logo may not be high res enough for print items depending on how big the log is being used. Please see other logo files that are available page 6 & 7. This file is saved as: BLUE _LIGHT_LOGO.jpg This is a JPG Image file View 2 This logo is a transparent RGB File this is for use on most documents; Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc. This is for use on documents where a background image or colour needs to be seen coming through around the logo. For example a poster with an image or a graphic in the background or where a white boxed logo is not appropriate or visually pleasing. PLEASE NOTE This logo may not be high res enough for print items depending on how big the logo is being used. See page 6 & 7 for other logo files. This file is saved as: BLUE_LIGHT_LOGO.png This is a PNG Image file
5 The Logo Minimum size Our logo must be well-defined with the strap line clear and readable. The logo must be reproduced consistently. For this reason a minimum size has been established. The logo with strap must be used above 50mm across the width of the logo. The logo does not have a maximum reproduction size. Clear space mm When using the logo ensure that there is enough clear space surrounding it to ensure its maximum visual presence.
6 Blue Light Logo Files There are several different Blue Light logo file types. Each is used for a different situation for example large digital print jobs such as posters, digital signage, merchandise, cut vinyl signage, newspaper/print. These logos are listed below: BLUE_LIGHT_LOGO.psd Usage: Print/Poster (Photoshop)/Digital Printing/Signage This logo is a layered Photoshop CMYK (or 4 colour process) File C100/M87/Y0/K2 Usually one of the two versions that would be sent to a designer to use to create a print item (other version accompanying this that a designer might request is a Vector EPS File) BLUE_LIGHT_LOGO.tif Usage: Print/Poster (Photoshop)/Digital Printing/Digital Signage This logo is a flattened version of the Layered Photoshop (PSD) file above. Logo appears as a white rectangular box so is best suited on a white background, or where a white boxed logo is appropriate to make the logo stand out. C100/M87/Y0/K2 BLUE_LIGHT_LOGO_4col.eps Usage: Print/Poster (Photoshop)/Digital Printing/Digital Signage This logo is a Vector CMYK (or 4 colour process) File C100/M87/Y0/K2 This is the VECTOR art version of the Photoshop PSD file above.
7 Blue Light Logo Files BLUE_LIGHT_LOGO_2col.eps Usage: Print/Poster/Merchandise/Cut Vinyl Signage This logo is a Vector 2 Spot Colour File PMS 2738c Blue PMS White This is the other version that would be sent to a designer to use to create a print item, brand merchandise or cut vinyl signage. Signage vinyl colour match as follows: Calon High Performance Series 2100/ SHAPIRE BLUE (main logo) 92 WEDGEWOOD BLUE (drop shadow) WHITE BLUE_LIGHT_LOGO_BW.eps Usage: Black & White (greyscale) Print/Newspaper This logo is a Vector Black & White Greyscale File Would mainly be used for black and white printing for newspaper
8 Embroidery/Merchandise When using the Blue Light logo for embroidery the logo will be one colour. Firstly consider what colour fabric is being used. If the logo is on dark coloured fabric use white embroidery and logo view 1 as indicated below. If using on a white shirt use Blue thread (1166 madeira classic) and logo in view 2 as indicated below. It is important to note that the logo will need to be big enough that the empowering youth strap is reproduced sufficiently to be read. If you have doubts about this please just ask. View 1 View 2
9 Merchandise There may be instances where you are wanting to reproduce the Blue Light logo onto other merchandise such as pens, caps, tickets etc that require a logo smaller than the 50mm size, if this is the case, please contact the Marketing Communications Manager at the Blue Light National office to request the correct logo file. Two instances where we might not use the logo with empowering youth strap line as it becomes unreadable.
10 Final Note Working together we can ensure that Blue Light is represented in a consistent way and build the charity to a point where it is easily recognised and at the forefront of peoples minds. Please be sure to always check your document before sending it out to ensure that it has the correct logo, and if in doubt please ask. In addition if you are unsure which logo to use or think you may require a logo file that is not supplied please ask. This is the first phase of our branding guidelines with a phase two to follow.
