1 Robyn Bailey Fine Art.Photography.Illustration Video Work I have taken the fluid movements within my fluid paintings and brought them to life in a series of experiments using my handmade bath-bombs. By combining movement with projection, I have developed my concepts surrounding immersive experiences. Still images show isolated details within a series of videos capturing their immersive and engaging qualities.
2 Ceramics In response to Fluidity I began ceramic workshops to train myself in a field I am less familiar in. This piece began as a fingerbowl. It eventually began to form a fluid shape that started to rise up into wave-like petals (2016). My preliminary clay mockup of a piece I made in response to a Middlesex University student s live brief on body image (2016).
3 Fluid Painting I have developed an ever-changing style of fluid painting that resonates from my acrylic and oil photography. These paintings explore colour, contrast and texture. 4 Oil A new found form of art that has provided some beautiful colour spectacles for me to capture and manipulate. These have formed small environments that echo biology and science. Looking at layering. Oil, acrylic & water (Left). Exploring how desaturation in my photography can create ominously clinical imagery (Right).
5 Illustration Illustration is my personal practise that I use to create for group exhibitions, greetings cards and commissions. I am currently illustrating for a Greek Mythology poetry book that will be printed later this year. A4 fine liner illustration from Once upon a... group exhibition (2014) (Left). 6 Artist Statement Robyn is an experimental artist practising in a variety of ways using different materials to both strengthen her skills and discover what she wants to proceed with as a creative. Robyn s current practice looks to creating colour spectacles that entice viewers to look very closely at her work. By using rich colours and a glossy layer of resin, Robyn creates one-off large and small gems that gleam in both natural and unnatural light. With sights set on a creative business and ideas of how to expand her work s potential, Robyn intends to continue developing each aspect of her practice, Fine Art, Photography and Illustration, to support her professional intentions.
7 Biography Once completing my A-levels in 2013 I continued onto a Foundation Diploma at Hertford Regional College (HRC) where I formed an unexpected interest in abstract art using procion dyes and glue; this I believe sparked the nature of my current practice. During this time I also discovered the power of installation art which lead me to installation artist Yayoi Kusama and my interest in immersive experiences. Once completing my Diploma with a distinction in 2014 I chose to begin a Foundation Degree in Fine Art at The University of Hertfordshire (UH) where in 2015 I completed a Silver Arts Award through The Young Curators Programme at The Gibberd Gallery in Harlow Town. Through this I gained an Assistant Curator job on the 3 rd March 2015 at The Tudor House Gallery in Sawbridgeworth where I have befriended artists and come to know the realities of making and selling art within a small business. I was also commissioned by my Silver Arts Award mentor to photograph The RichTea Projects #HarlowWrap project in partnership with The Gibberd Gallery on the 14 th March 2016 to document the project from morning to evening whilst also updating social media to spread awareness of the project attempting to bring attention to Harlow s statues. Whilst studying at UH I have taken part in live briefs with Duxford and the Guild of Aviation Artists on the Concorde jet, collaborated with a Graphic Design student to design a poster for a touching event in support of 'Alice's Youth Music Memorial Fund' as well as designing postcards to be sold at the event, assisted in the curation of the grand opening of HRC s David Gentleman gallery and I also collaborated with my peers to organise an exhibition of our own work in celebration of our final year of studying in Ware. Over the past 4 years I have taken part in collaborative exhibitions at the Gatehouse Arts Gallery in Harlow Town where I have curated and displayed my work. During this time I became part of the Gatehouse collective and rented a studio with them. I am currently illustrating a poetry book by a dear friend I made during my time working in Sawbridgeworth. This book will be printed later this year. From this September I will be continuing on my education in Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts for 2 years.
