2 MCM Saint Cloche presents MCM - an exhibition held in conjunction with the Palm Springs signature event - Modernism week, celebrating Palm Springs' rich history of midcentury modern design, architecture, art and culture. In the spirit of collaboration, the modernist inspired bold & simplified sculptural works of a Ceramic sculptor Natalie Rosin juxtaposed against the bold contrasted paintings of Emma Lipscombe will transform the gallery space. Taking their cue from Mid-century modern design, known for its ability to take complex concepts and distill them into simple visual forms, these artists will explore the elements of Modern architecture based on abstraction, which is created by clean lines, basic shapes and forms.

3 NATALIE ROSIN Natalie Rosin is an architectural graduate and ceramicist practicing in Sydney, Australia. Her work involves the intersection, conflict and dialogue between these disciplines, forming both sculptural and functional handmade ceramic objects. Throughout her practice, Natalie s work explores form, either architectural model or ceramic sculpture, whose fluid properties and flexible structure are characteristic of neither discipline. Natalie has worked in various architectural studios in addition to more recently practicing as a full-time artist for private commissions, exhibitions and installations. Breezeblocks are a strong motif in Natalie s works for this exhibition, as a hallmark graphic component in many Palm Springs buildings. Pops of colour are also a signature element, along with the abundance of pools, all reflecting the lifestyle of the mid-century desert city and the design emphasis on relationships between interior and exterior realms.

4 EMMA LIPSCOMBE Emma Lipscombe has been deeply immersed in design throughout her life via art, interiors, landscape architecture and fashion, and her works fuse the hard-edged tangible absolute with the painterly. Her interest lies in the confluence of geometric shape and colour, and in the transformative ritual of simplifying, sampling, re-mixing and re-working them. Utilising skills honed in her work as a Landscape Architect on projects as far afield as London, Thailand and Beirut, Lipscombe's works bring together a designer's eye for order and scale with the artist's rich understanding of colour and luminosity.
