2 30 Artists for 30 Years The number of professional artists who have passed through our doors over the last 30 years is well into many 1,000s. To invite just 30 from such a number has been a considerable task! We are of course extremely grateful to these 30 artists for their support with this anniversary exhibition, as we are to the many we have not been able to include. All have made a notable contribution in numerous and varied ways on the Patchings journey. Our aim has been to include a cross section of artists covering the years and recognising all levels of involvement. For instance John Cahill from the Harbour Gallery Tenby was the first to hold a solo exhibition with us. Shirley Trevena s almost sell out exhibition in 2016 along with other successes such as Peter Burgess and John Sprakes has ensured this tradition continues. Next year the renowned printmaker Laura Boswell has agreed to a one person show. Other print work exhibitions have included Geri Waddington and Charlie Downes. The first group exhibition included work by Sandra Bartle. Themed exhibitions whether by media or subject matter continue to be popular. Many of the artists have been part of group shows including Jenny Keal and Alistair Butt. Each year we work with well known artists at the Patchings Festival, demonstrating in the Festival Marquee, some are exhibiting with us for the first time. From 1994 early demonstrators included Ashley Jackson, Gordon King, more recently David Bellamy, Lucy Willis, Hazel Soan, Ann Blockley and Jean Haines. In recent years are Soraya French and Carne Griffiths. Popular at the festival are the Guest Artists, when visitors can meet well known artists informally. Pollyanna Pickering, Trevor Chamberlain and Bruce Mulcahy along with David Curtis and John Sprakes have all been involved in this way. Ashley Jackson taught the astronaut Helen Sharman, to paint our Monet bridge for Yorkshire TV in The BBC TV programme of the wild life artist Pollyanna Pickering featured her exhibition at Patchings. We brought together Lucy Willis, David Curtis and Ken Howard for an exhibition to celebrate our 25th anniversary in Over the years London galleries have come to Patchings with their out of city exhibitions. The ROI and the RSMA are two such institutes. Alistair Butt, David Curtis, and John Sprakes are members of these august bodies. Not forgetting the day to day running of the centre, Graham Laughton and Stephen Ashurst have had studio space at Patchings. Both teach on our Art School Programme as did Sue Campion and Sue Sareen in the early years. This exhibition is also directed to the future... years beyond 30. To that end we have included Susan Isaac who will be exhibiting for the first time at this year s festival and Bert Wright is joining David Curtis and Trevor Chamberlain for our second anniversary exhibition in August. Last but by no means least, we would acknowledge the support of Ken Howard, OBE, RA, who has generously given his time, allowed us to show his work, and shared his vast experience and passion for art. To have the friendship of a Royal Academician means a great deal. All the artists acknowledged above, have shared with Patchings something quite significant and special. The privilege of exhibiting their art has provided enjoyment, pleasure and fulfilment to our many visitors. We would extend to each and all our sincere appreciation in helping us make Patchings for the enjoyment of art.
