3 Chapter News Crozet Quilters Adrienne Granitz Since learning we would be hosting Spring Fest 2018, we were busy finding a speaker, making favors and planning the day. We were pleased with the outcome on May 19 and thank everyone for their help. We have been busy with our charity quilts that include Bright Star Quilts, the blocks for the first of two Hospice Quilts, and beginning to create quilts for the UVA NICU. We will have our Spring Luncheon on June 11 and our first refresher lesson on Crazy Quilts on June 25 th. We also made tentative plans to make two road trips to the Quiltery on July 9 th and A Thread Runs Through It on August 31 st. Moonlighters Linda Boone Moonlighters are enjoying the camaraderie of occasional dinners, show and tell, and planning Fall Fest. We look forward to sharing our Add-a-Log Challenge results and continue to create Bright Star quilts. Fall fest guest speaker will be Mary Beth Bellah, Moonlighter and "an artist and quilter who doesn't mind blurring the space between those two words. Mary Beth will present a trunk show and discuss creativity and the business of quilting. Nelson Quilters Doris Delk Members completed a quilt of valor and presented it to Mrs. Lois Pelosky in memory of her husband s service to the nation. Presentation was made at the Memorial Day event in Lovingston. We have completed the blocks for a quilt that will be donated to 2018 Hospice Rainbow of Hope Quilt Auction. Mary Anne Stevens will complete the top and Becky Davis will quilt it. The quilt donated to Nelson County Relay for Life event brought in $800 in donations. One of the families that lost their home in the tornado that hit Elon, VA. was given a quilt by the group. We will keep abreast of the fundraising activities in the area so we might be able to make a larger donation of a quilt for auction. Rose Thomas and Nadine Bird, enjoyed teaching workshops for the guild this spring. Tuesday Morning Karen Horridge Tuesday Morning Quilters have continued to enthusiastically support the Bright Star Program. They wish everyone a summer of relaxation, sun and creativity. We meet all summer and enjoy visitors. 4 Bright Star Quilts Guild members have completed 108 quilts for six area schools that include Clarke, Woodbrook, Scottsville, Stone Robinson, and Red Hill. Because of the generous donation of time and skills by our members, extra quilts are available this year, and the board voted to donate to Cale Elementary School s Bright Star program (an additional 36 quilts). All these quilts will be delivered in August for the children to begin their school year with a comforting quilt. Thank you everyone!!! Karen Horridge CAQG Quilt Show 2019 April 6 & 7 It is certainly not too early to start thinking about next year s CAQG Quilt Show. Work has been underway on the planning process. We are happy to announce that next year s show will be at Tandem Friends School, conveniently located off of Rt. 20 South, across from Monticello High School. This venue provides a tremendous saving for the Guild and we are anxious to make the show at the new site a big success. Many of you may have received raffle tickets from your chapter representative by now. Please sell them as soon as you can and ask for more. The proceeds of the show will support the Guild s Mission of promoting the quilting arts and community charity projects. Postcards will be available shortly. If you know of a location that would be willing to display the quilt and sell raffle tickets, please let us know. There will be some changes to the categories of quilts in an effort to recognize pieced versus appliqué quilts. You will be able to see the quilt submission form in the early Fall. Submission forms will be due by February 15, 2019 so get those projects going! We guarantee that every member of the Guild will be able to place at least one quilt in the show. We would ask that members consider how they can contribute to the success of the next show. When approached to help with a committee, volunteer, etc., please lend a helping hand. It takes the work of all of us to make the show a big success. We will keep you updated as details become finalized. Happy Quilting! Jan Mott, Chair and Linda Boone, Assistant Chair mottjj@gmail.com and lindab00ne@yahoo.com

You can see both these projects on Michelle's website-the Raspberry Rabbits- When you get to the website go to Classes. Additionally we teach each other techniques. Our next meeting will be held on Sunday June 24th at the Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative in Charlottesville. Please contact Jane Fellows for time and directions if you are interested in joining us. Our Current exhibit, Halcyon Explored runs till June 30, 2018 and is located at the Charlottesville Women s Initiative on 1101 E. High Street Charlottesville. Open from 9 am to 5 pm, M-F and by appointment (434) Our next show will be displayed at Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge in December. Details in the September newsletter so stay tuned! Jane Fellows dancingdeer.fellows@gmail.com Farmer s Delight by Janet Saulsbury at Paducah 2018 AQS Spring Quilt Week Contest in Paducah Semi-Finalist in the Miniature Category 18" x 18" Machine Pieced (paper pieced arcs), Hand Appliqued, Machine and Hand Quilted. I made this miniature quilt with the hope of having it exhibited in the miniature category in the Spring Paducah show. AQS defines miniatures as "Width no more than 24"; Length no more than 24". All aspects of the quilt are reduced in scale." I decided that my entry should have historical significance as well as some Virginia interest. Farmer's Delight is a quilt block specific to the Shenandoah Valley and has always been one of my favorite designs. I choose to do a medallion style piece to highlight the block.
