Please read through the pattern before starting your project. Unless otherwise noted, all seams are sewn with a 1/4 seam allowance and pressed open. This chart includes a summary of the pieces needed to make each block. The diagram of the fi nished block shows where each piece will go. The dimensions of each piece are listed width x height. Left Half locks and Right Half locks are made using identical sets of cut pieces. You will need three Left Half locks and three Right Half locks for the quilt. Making the locks Step 1: Starting with abric 1, arrange two pieces, two pieces, and two pieces with four background fabric pieces and fi ve pieces in fi ve rows, as shown in the lock ssembly iagram. Sew together the pieces in each row and sew the rows together to fi nish the lock. t this stage (before being sewn into the quilt) the block should measure 10-1/ x 10-1/. Repeat to make a second block from abric 1. Step : Repeat Step 1 with fabrics - 6, 8-1, 14-19, and 1-, making two locks from each fabric. Step 3: Repeat the fi rst part of Step 1 with fabric 3 to make one lock from this fabric. page 5

6 H H LT HL block assembly diagram Step 4: Using the pieces cut from abric 7, arrange one piece, two pieces, and two pieces with two background fabric pieces, two pieces, and one piece H in fi ve rows, as shown in the Left Half lock ssembly iagram. Sew together the pieces in each row and sew the rows together to fi nish the Left Half lock. t this stage (before being sewn into the quilt) the half block should measure 5-1/ x 10-1/. RIHT HL block assembly diagram Step 5: Use a set of fabric pieces identical to those used in Step 4, but refer to the Right Half lock ssembly iagram to make a Right Half lock that is a mirror-image of the Left Half lock you made in Step 4. t this stage (before being sewn into the quilt) the half block should measure 5-1/ x 10-1/. Step 6: Repeat Steps 4 and 5 with abrics 13 and 0, making one Left Half lock and one Right Half lock from each fabric. page 6

7 Making the Quilt Top and inishing the Quilt lock Layout uide Step 1:Refer to the lock Layout uide to arrange the locks and Half locks in seven rows. (The numbers on the chart refer to the twenty-three different fabrics used to make the blocks.) Rows 1, 3, 5, and 7 include 6 locks each. Rows, 4, and 6 include 5 locks and Half locks each. page 7

8 Quilt Top ssembly iagram Step : Sew together the blocks and block halves in each row. Sew the rows together to fi nish the quilt top. Step 3: rom the backing fabric, cut two pieces, each 68 long. Trim away selvages and sew the pieces together along the long sides. Trim fi nished quilt back to 66 x 78. Step 4: Sandwich and quilt as desired. rom the binding fabric, cut seven strips -1/ x WO. Sew the strips together and bind as desired. page 8
