This pattern includes instructions f piecing big sister and little sister versions of the same quilt layout. The big sister quilt is 72 x 72 perfect f a large throw quilt. The little sister version is 36 x 36 perfect f a baby quilt. Shown in PTL. alternate colsties see pages 9-14.

4 Please read all instructions befe starting your project. Yardages are based on fabric at least 42 wide. WO = width of fabric / LO = length of fabric (along the selvage edge) Unless otherwise notes, all seams are sewn with a 1/4 seam allowance and pressed open. Pieces and are 2-7/8 x 2-7/8 f the little sister quilt and 4-7/8 x 4-7/8 f the big sister quilt. If you prefer not to cut 1/8 measurements, round up to 3 x 3 f the little sister quilt and 5 x 5 f the big sister quilt. Then, after sewing the half square triangle blocks in Step 1 (on page 6), trim your half square triangles to 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 f the little sister block, and 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 f the big sister block. While I like to cut my half square triangles befe sewing them together, some quilters prefer to place two squares right sides together, mark a diagonal line from cner to cner, sew 1/4 from each side of the marked line, and then cut along the marked line, making 2 half square triangle blocks at once. ither method is appropriate f this project, so please use whichever wks best f you. Step 1: Make the Half Square Triangles ut all thirty-six colful pieces (four of each colful fabric) and all thirty-six background pieces in half diagonally, creating seventy-two colful and seventy-two background fabric triangles. Sew each colful fabric triangle to a background fabric triangle, creating seventy-two triangle units. UT UT UT PIS IGONLLY Note: directional prints, be sure to make half of the diagonal cuts in one direction and the other half in the opposite direction. This will make it easier to line up the prints effectively in the blocks. One easy way to do this is to cut two squares at a time, placing right sides together and matching the direction of the print. TRINGL UNITS page 6

7 Step 2: St the abrics St sets of four pieces,, and, and eight triangle units into nine groups (one f each block) so that each group includes four different colful fabrics. example, four pieces from abric 1, four pieces from abric 2, four pieces from fabric 3, and eight triangle units from fabric 4. The fabric combinations can be random carefully planned the objective is just to make sure that, within each block, pieces,,, and are cut from four different fabrics. Step 3: inish the locks Starting with one of the groups, arrange pieces,,, the triangle units, and five background pieces in five rows of five, as shown in the block assembly diagram. Sew the pieces/units in each row together. Sew the rows together to finish the block. Repeat this process with each group to make a total of nine blocks. lock ssembly iagram Making the Quilt Step 1: Make the Quilt Top rrange the nine blocks in three rows of three. Sew the blocks in each row together, sewing a vertical sashing piece between each block, beginning and ending with a block. Sew the rows together, sewing a hizontal sashing piece between each row, beginning and ending with a row. Sew the vertical bder pieces to the sides, and sew the hizontal bder pieces to the top and bottom to finish the quilt top. page 7

8 Quilt Top ssembly iagram Step 2: Make the Quilt ack the little sister quilt: Trim backing fabric to 42 x 42. the big sister quilt: rom backing fabric, cut two pieces, each 80 long. Trim away selvages and sew the pieces together along the long sides. Trim the finished quilt back to 80 x 80. Step 3: inish the Quilt Sandwich, quilt, and bind as desired.
