3 Pattern utting Notes Nature in its purest form never ceases to instill a sense of wonder and awe. Marks captures the freedom of the out of doors in color, pattern, and texture. The woven imagery is created with hand carved blocks that are carefully layered and printed, resulting in unique color palettes. or the Mark Maker quilt, plan on using the templates and following cutting directions for the strips. You are cutting 5 strips, and you will want to keep the strip folded together after cutting it from your fabric. Refer to the illustration and layer the templates on the strip as shown. You will be cutting the shape and its mirror image for each block. Pair up your fabrics as indicated above, using one solid and one print in each fabric pair. Using your fi rst solid fabric strip, leave the strip folded wrong sides together, selvage to selvage. Lay the templates on the folded strip, and cut as shown. igure 1. page 3

4 This will give you all the solid pieces and their mirror image (reverse) needed for two blocks. Repeat, using the print fabric you are pairing with the solid. ontinue cutting the fabric pairs. You may fi nd you are able to cut four layers effectively.
