1 Cherokee Rose Quilter s Guild Volume 21, Issue 8 August 2012 President s Message I hope everyone has had a good summer, so far. I know we've had a few members that have missed some meetings due to traveling. I'm sure they've been checking out quilt shops on their travels and will have lots to show 'n tell when they return! July programs were a lot of fun. We had a hands-on project at the day meeting working with a couple of special rulers as well as a fun little project at the night meeting. For those of you who complete your quilt by the end of September, Trace would love to borrow them to hang in her new location for a while. Let her know if you get yours done. Thanks to our Programs committee, we've been learning some new and fun things to do this year in the world of quilting. On July 26, we had a Board meeting before our regular meeting. Thank you to all who attended and participated. We discussed a variety of things. Ways & Means will be raffling one ticket to the Christmas Party. In an effort to reduce the number of magazines that always show up at R'auction, there will be a way to purchase some of these during the year for a donation to the guild. Details are forthcoming on this. Libby Armstrong has done a fine job so far, especially without any helpers. She will need assistance for the R'auction and would appreciate any help prior to that as well. If you're interested, please contact Libby or myself. The Program Committee will have some of their members continuing into 2013, but would love to have a couple of you as "interns". It's a great way to get BROKEN in without being THROWN in!! There are some quilt shows/displays coming up in the near future. First, at the Douglasville Court House, beginning on Aug 7, there will be a display of quilts/sewing, etc. You can check for exact details on the internet under Douglas County Happenings. September 20-22, 2012, is the QuiltFest JAX in Jacksonville, FL. You can visit the website at for more information. I will have a few pages of the literature available at the meetings in August Officers President Dori Holt Vice-President Jennie Hollis Day Secretary Phyllis Carpenter Night Secretary Connie Tallant Treasurer Tina Corbitt Inside this issue: President s message Bee News Birthdays Calendar Community Service Day Minutes Door prize winners Eve minutes Fat Qtr Winners Featured Member Georgia Quilt Council Golden Scissors/Pins Hospitality Library News Programs Membership Program Supplies Quilt Til You Wilt Raffle Info Show & Tell Treasurer Forms Trearurer s Report Ways and Means
2 Page 2 Cherokee Rose Quilter s Guild Don't forget that our own Challenge Quilt and Ice Cream Social will be September 27. Also, be thinking about what you want to clear out of your sewing room for our R'auction at the October night meeting. Broach Winsley and Erna Kriigel have offered to store some of the things for Libby until then. Remember, cotton fabric only, unless you have a nice piece of fabric that is useful for sewing. Try to bring your things in a container, bag or something to make for easy storage. Items should be in good condition - in other words, please don't bring something that you yourself would not bid on because of it's condition. This is our "money maker" for the year, so see what you re willing to part with! Again, please be thinking in what area/s you might want to be involved in for We have a wealth of talent in our guild so, please, don't hide your light under a bushel. 8 Page 8 TRASH TO TREASURERS PINE APPLE BLOCK AUGUST DAY MEETINGA Robin Meyer and Emma Parker will teach us Trash to Treasure - Pineapple Block technique. Come and Make scrappy pineapple block - you won't believe how great those 1.5" strips can look! Any quilting fabric works! You'll need a sewing machine, 1/4" foot, rotary cutter, cutting mat at least 12" square, an iron and basic sewing supplies. We will have a bin of strips for everyone to use. So if you don't have strips you won't have to cut up perfectly good fabric. You will need to bring some fabric for the centers of the blocks. Each block uses a 2.5" square for the center, and you can use anything you want -- even different centers for each block. Can't bring your machine, but you'd like to learn this block? Well, find a buddy bringing their machine and offer to be their helper - you can press, cut or pick the next strips - it's a good two-person project. Questions? Call or Robin at or robinmeyerga@yahoo.com We ll pass out the rulers before the class and you can pay for them then. A TAST OF VILLA RICA The Lions Club of Villa Rica & Villa Rica Parks & Recreation Department are presenting A Taste Of Villa Rica on October 6, Show to be held in the Villa Rica at The Mill Amphitheatre. The show will go on, rain or shine.
