Calendars Although the leaves around this part of our beautiful country have not changed colors as yet, the temps have cooled and the feeling of fall is in the air. I was raised where the leaves turned early in the season and the many colors were enough to inspire you to make a quilt. SMILE During our last two meetings, you ladies once again proved just how talented and creative you are! When I offered you the challenge of giving something away to a fellow guild member, I knew you were awesome, but...wow, YOU ARE AWESOME! Once again, you went beyond my expectations. There were calendars, purses, photo albums, sewing kits and so much more. Take time to look through the newsletter and look at the fantastic Giver Challenge photos. Speaking of challenges, don t forget to get your Sunbonnet Sue on Vacation Sewing Machine Cover (now that is a long title) ready for the September night meeting. I can t wait to see how you have created these pieces. There could be Sunbonnet Sue in a fur parka and mukluks, or maybe we could see her in a bikini on a water slide. Who knows, she could have a mumu on. Anyway, even if you did not make a challenge piece, you need to be at the meeting to laugh and smile, to vote for your favorite and to enjoy the ice cream social. Mm m m m! Last, but very far from least, please do not miss the East Cobb Quilters Guild 12 th Biennial Quilt Show. This year it will take place on September at the Cobb County Civic Center in Marietta. I think there are 8 of our very own members who have been accepted to show their beautiful quilts. The cost is only $8 and worth twice that amount. You will be thrilled with these quilted creations and challenged to put your own masterpiece in the competition in We hope to see you there! Happy Quilting, Rachel P.S. Because I know that some of you skip this part of the newsletter, the first 4 people who come up to me at the night meeting and tell me they read the newsletter will get a fat quarter from me. JUST CHECKING. SMILE!

8 September 2009 Cherokee Rose Quilters Guild Page 8 FEATURED MEMBER BRENDA SENN How long have you been quilting? Four years Who taught you how to quilt? Dorene Bickford taught me for the first two years at Central Baptist Church, and now Rachel and Charlie Phaneuf for the last two years. They are all wonderful teachers. I have learned soooo much from them. I started with Dorene the year after my mother passed away. Although my mother did not do much quilting, she did put together many tops and would tack them to backings. Her mother made a lot of beautiful quilts, but she never signed nor dated any of them. In going through my mother s things, I found several boxes of cut out quilt pieces and that was what led me to quilting. What are your favorite quilting techniques? What are your favorite colors to work with? What are your favorite fabrics to work with? Any and all. Red, white and blue, and blues and yellows. 100% cotton. What is your favorite quilt shop? practical favorite). Patrick s in Covington (just for the atmosphere, I guess Red Hen would be the most If you sew by machine, what kind(s) do you use? Right now I have a Riccar, Simplicity, an old Kenmore, and, of course, my serger. What inspires you to make a particular quilt? I make all of my quilts for family members, so I try to pick something they would like and in the colors they would like. What is your favorite quilting book or pattern? I really don t have a favorite. I like them all!!! I had the most fun making a mile a minute in Dorene s class with my friend Debra Mitchell. On average, how many quilts do you make in a year? Do you quilt your own quilts or do you send them out? Rachel and Charlie s or to Rita s. Maybe 2 or 3. I sure would love to be making more, though. Full size and under I quilt myself; the others I either go to What quilt related item(s) are you working on right now? I am trying to finish a Dresden Plate that I started in Rachel s class in the spring of this year. What other hobbies do you have? Sewing and alterations, cake decorating, baking and cooking, gardening, crochet, making my little lighted Christmas trees. Oh yea, I work full time for a roofing company in Douglasville. Tell about one way that quilting has changed your life. I have met so many good people and made lots of new friends. Are you on any committees with the CRQG? I don t serve on any committees at this time. Feel free to tell us more about yourself and your family. I am a divorced mother of two beautiful girls. Jennifer is 25 and Jessica is 22. Jennifer has worked at Babies R Us since the store opened here in Douglasville in Jessica has been unemployed since February of this year and is now trying to go back to school.
9 September 2009 Cherokee Rose Quilters Guild Page 9 COMMUNITY SERVICE The quilts are rolling in, along with cushions, walker totes and bags! You are all so wonderful! For those who aren t finished, please try to do so soon as the deadline is fast approaching (day meeting in September). I know we all get excited trying to start those holiday projects about this time, but let s get these done with and out of the way so the recipients can enjoy their treasures over the holidays, too. You have completely overwhelmed me with your generosity and willingness to give to these community service projects! You have certainly made my job so much easier...thanks a Bunch! Sprinkle each piece on both sides with salt, pepper, & garlic powder. Place 1 cheese slice and 1 prosciutto slice on each breast. Roll up each breast using toothpicks to secure if necessary. Dredge each in flour (shake off excess) then in egg, and finally in combined bread crumbs. Place seam side down in baking dish that has been sprayed with Pam (I use olive oil spray). Place 1 Tablespoon butter on each piece of chicken. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes in preheated oven until juices run clear. (I prepared this the day before and kept refrigerated) Sauce for Top (I did not use because I was serving it with cold salads) ½ Cup chicken broth 1 Cup whipping cream In saucepan, combine broth and whipping cream; season to taste (sale, pepper, garlic powder, oregano). Simmer on low stirring until thickened. Pour over chicken. R AUCTION Please make sure that your items are in good condition, and please try to put your items in boxes. This makes for easier storage and keeps items in better condition. Please give your items to Albertha Brown, Broach Winsley, or Sandy Capazzi.
