2 Charity Quilting Updates and News Charity Quilter Sewing The TVQG Charity Quilters meets monthly on the first Monday of the month at the Sherwood Senior Center located at SW Sherwood Blvd, Sherwood. Sewing start time is 10:00 a.m. All TVQG members are invited to attend. Please bring your own sewing machine and basic sewing supplies. A wide selection of fabric is available for you to use in constructing your charity quilt. Finished quilts are donated Tigard s Good Neighbor Center, to Wings, or to other charity organizations as needed. Charity Quilt Labels If you have completed a charity quilt and need a label please see Betty Murphy, Liz Cadish, or Vergie Karlson. These ladies bring a supply of quilt labels to both the monthly TVQG Charity Sewing and TVQG General Meetings. Quilting Practice? Would you like some quilt projects to practice your quilting skills on? If so, please get in touch with Vergie at or Betty. They will set you up with a charity quilt that has been already been put together with a top, batting and backing. All you would need to do is complete the quilting. What a great idea to practice your quilting skills and help reduce their knee-high and ever-growing stack of quilts that just need to be quilted. Our Charity Quilting Team wanted to share us some of the recent happenings of our Charity Quilters Hello quilters We received a lovely note from Pam at Good Neighbor Center thanking all of you for this last stack of quilts. Then Heidi sent pictures of some of the children with their very own quilts. Heidi saw one of the quilts and immediately thought of a 6-month old boy and took it to him right then! We later got to see him all wrapped up it! Our next charity sew day is the day after retreat and there will NOT be fabric brought in. Betty, however, will bring batting that day. Happy sewing Liz, Betty and Vergie Photos by Permission of Good Neighbor Center Good Neighbor Center Donations Items The April 2014 Good Neighbor Center donation item is your choice. Because they need so many things we are leaving it up to you to decide what to bring in to donate. Here are some suggestions, dry goods, canned or boxed food, or cleaning items. If you would like to find out more about the Good Neighbor Center including their current donation needs please follow this link to the Good Neighbor Center: Page -2 -

3 2014 Raffle Quilt 2014 Raffle Quilt This year s beautiful raffle quilt has been completed in vibrant colors in a Lone Star motif. Coordinating Pillow shams have also been constructed as shown in this photo. The quilt and shams will be displayed at future TVQG General meeting. To date we have already collected $156 in raffle ticket sales. Upcoming presentations of the Raffle Quilt may include showings at Sherwood Senior Center Flea Market/Rummage Sale, April 12 th and at the King City Holiday Bazaar in November. Sherry Little suggested that guild members sign up to take the quilt for one day to show it and sell tickets at an event of their choice. This way no one person will have to shoulder the entire responsibility of generating raffle ticket sales. A volunteer is needed to maintain the signup sheet and keep the presentation schedule current. Those interested should contact Sherry Little, Mary Hamm or Brook McReynolds. Raffle tickets should be available at the TVQG s General Meeting. Quilt Retreat We are only a couple of days away from the 2014 TVQG annual retreat which is scheduled for April 3rd through April 6th. All 32 Attendees should have received an with retreat details. King City Holiday Bazaar TVQG will again be participating in the King City Holiday Bazaar scheduled for the second weekend in November. Because of the success we have had in previous years we hope to add a second table of items for sale. Even though it is only spring, it s not to early to start planning your contributions for this event. Mary Hamn, 2013 Event Coordinator says she noticed smaller or lower priced items generated the most interest and sales, s you may want to keep that in mind. Also we are in need of some extra hands with helping with the coordination of this event. Sound Equine Options Requesting Quilt Donation Sound Equine Options a non-profit organization that provides veterinary-directed programs to reduce the number of suffering and starving horses in NW Oregon and SW Washington has reached out to TVQG asking for the donation of quilts to include as part of their fundraising efforts. Donated quilts need to be received by June 1, They will gladly accept any size quilt for their Silent Auction. Anyone donating will receive mention on Facebook, on their website and in their newsletter as well as tax receipt. This scrapbook will be shared for viewing at Guild meetings and charity events or functions. If interested in assisting with this project please contact any Guild Officer. Open Position -Legal Affairs Occasionally our Quilt Guild needs to have an answer to a quick or simple legal question. With that in mind, do any of our guild members have the knowledge or expertise and be willing to assist the officers of our guild when these simple questions arise? Or do any of our guild members know of someone (possibly a relative or friend) who would be willing to assist? If you do, please contact Brook McReynolds by at brookmcr@hotmail.com Classified and Want Ads and Services If you have anything that you would like to sell, give away, trade or barter, a service that you would like to offer, or you are searching for something you need to purchase, let us know. Sewing Machine For Sale Viking Scandinavia 100 Attachments & user guide 15 stitches Makes button holes, In excellent condition Original cost $ Asking $ If interested, contact Bonnie Holt at Free-Motion Darning Foot This closed-toe free motion darning foot fits most low shank sewing machines. Unfortunately my machine a Singer XL was not one of the most. This foot was purchased online for about $ It s not worth the hassle of sending back. So if you can use this foot, is yours FREE. If you would like to have this darning foot, please Carol Springer at carol@springertech.com and I will bring it with me to the next TVQG General Meeting for you. Upcycle Worn Rotary Mats This tip comes to us by way of LinkedIn s Quilting Enthusiast Group member Barbara Wiggins. Instead of using cardboard for templates, use your old, really rough from so much rotary cutting, cutting mats. Use a pair of wire snips to cut them out and viola` templates. Use a piece of sandpaper or an emery board to take off any rough spots. These things don't lose their shape or get smaller as you use them. They last and last. Page -6 - Tips and Tricks Dusting with Batting? I ve been told by a fellow guild member that your leftover pieces of batting can be cut to the size of your Swifter (or similar brand) dry-mop head. Batting pieces attach firmly to the Velcro strips of the mop head and work really well to wipe away those silly little dust bunnies that may be hanging around your house while you have been busy quilting. Hanging Rulers Vergie Karlson wanted to share this tip with us: I hang my rulers on nails on the wall. To make it easier to find the hole in the ruler I put a round sticker for notebook paper over it. Makes it easier for me!
