1 Penticton Quilters Guild Newsletter Penticton(Quilters(Guild,(Box(1064,(Penticton,(BC(V2A(6J9( March Meeting Demo Don't miss the demo by Linda Schmidt and Eileen Zornes on using fabric dyes, inks, and paints, with resists, to add surface design to fabrics President's Message Another month has flown by and the countdown continues, 70 days to go until opening day of our Quilt Show. It's going to be all about the deadlines from here on in, and I don't know about you but I work better under pressure with a deadline. Quilt registrations are coming in but please don't wait until the final date of March 25. Speaking of which, don't forget that on Mar 25 we will have a free sew day for any that are interested. Bring a pot luck item for lunch if you wish to participate and you are free to work on anything that interests you, a boutique item, a quilt show entry, your inspiration flags, "summer bloom" challenge, maybe your brown bag project? And if you are super organized and all of that is done, just bring something fun to work on. "Summer Blooms" challenge projects will be due at the first meeting in April, and you, the members will get to vote for the ribbon winners. Don't forget about your Brown Bag projects, watch for more info on that from Rae. 18 of our members went away to Retreat last weekend at the Walnut Beach Resort in Osoyoos; we all had lots of fun and saw some really awesome projects under way. Heard more than one person say they didn't want to come home. Really excellent food and attentive staff. If you didn't get to join us this year, you might want to try for next year. Thanks to Sharon Sutherland for organizing it for us and thanks to Eileen Zornes for her great demo on making Bath Bombs. Next meeting, we will have a creative demo put on by Eileen and Linda, and a demo on applying a hanging sleeve so keep reading for more details. Welcome to our new members, we look forward to having you join us for what will be a busy next few months. Our next meeting will be held on March 11. Pati

8 Penticton Quilters Guild Meeting Minutes Feb 11, 2015 President Pati de Broekert opened the meeting at 9:30 by welcoming everyone including 5 guests: Yolanda Forsyth, Rosa Brady, Cathy Matthews, Barb and Susan. Correction to previous meeting minutes: March workshop is on Wednesday March 25. Rae French moved to accept minutes with this change and seconded by Doreen Raffa. President: Pati mentioned the Osoyoos Quilt Show at the Art Gallery Feb 7-28 with admission being free. Anna Hergert will be teaching a session of Capture the Essence in Grand Forks Feb 21 to 24 at a cost of $390. Wayne Pedersen will be doing a machine maintenance demo today during coffee break. She also read a thank you card that we received from one of the recipients of the Christmas placemats. Pati also said that we still need more inspiration flags for the May show. 3 Sunshine cards were sent out in the past month. Treasurer s Report: Sherry Badger reviewed the financial report for the month ending January 31,2015 Programs: Kathleen Noble displayed a number of the lovely bags created at last months class. The February class will be a Bargello duck and there are still a few openings available. March will be a Sew and Sit event using the time to create items for the May show boutique or bring your own project to work on. Also will have a Pot -Luck lunch for those that wish to participate. April workshop will be based on 9 Patch Pizazz by Pati. Kathleen advised that she needs to have approx measurements of quilts that will be entered in the show so she has an idea as to what space and size of doweling would required. All quilts will need to arrive in a labeled pillowcase to ensure they get back to the correct owner. Show and Tell was hosted by Jane Rage. Gathering of the Guilds: Rae French advised that 16 have registered so far and there is still room for 4 more. The theme this year is Black and White and the pattern for the Bow Tie Block was in the last newsletter. She said that we still need 3 more baby quilts for the next prenatal graduating class in April. Library: Yvonne Mottishaw showed us the new American Quilters magazine. She also told us that she is going to start a book of the month program highlighting books that have never been signed out in the past...if they are not popular she will start weeding them out of the library to make room for more popular editions.

9 Retreat: Sharon Sutherland said there was still room for 1 more body at the retreat but she needs to know today. She also advised that she needs all quilt registry forms submitted by March 26 along with a photo detailing width and length of the entry. If too many entries are received, it might be restricted to no more than 5 per person. She needs help on Thursday before the show to take in quilt entries as well as scribes and runners during the show. CQA/Boutique: Paige McKelvey said that she sent a note to CQA requesting the current total of inches that we have submitted but has not had a response as yet so no idea how far along we are She reminded us to submit items for sale in the Boutique as all net proceeds fund our guild coffers for the next year. She said things like table runners, potholders and placemats sell well. She also said there would be a table for books/patterns that get donated and if you have anything you wish to provide, bring them to the April meeting. Quilt Show/ Community Quilts: Marilyn Govier said we need lots of entries as well as volunteers for the Show and don t forget to sell all your Raffle tickets. 3 Large bags of fabric have been donated by Cherry Tree Quilts towards our Community Quilt program and more will be coming. Sherry Badger sent a thank you card to Poppins for their recent donation and will do the same for Cherry Tree. Raffle Tickets: Linda Schmidt said so far 95 books have gone out and 10 of these have been sold, 7 of which were sold by Poppins alone Volunteers: Marg Jacques is looking for volunteers in all areas. She and Marilyn will be meeting with guilds in Keremeos, Summerland and the Pieceful Evening guild in Penticton to ask for their assistance with volunteer shifts. News Letter: Diane Schlamp was absent but Pati mentioned that the deadline for any entries for the next newsletter would be Feb 27. Meeting was adjourned at 11:35. QuiltRetreat2015
