2 North Shore Quilts at the Fairgrounds Friday October 20th Saturday October 21st Review of To-Do List Quilt Registration Forms: You need to complete one form for each quilt you would like to have in the show. A form is needed for all quilts, including the challenge quilts. Be sure a picture is attached. The absolute deadline for entering quilts is the October 1st!! Quilt registration forms are available at the back table at every meeting and on our member page on the website. (northshorequiltersguild.org) Nancy is willing to take pictures of your entry quilt at a guild meeting. Silent Auction Items: You can get your silent auction items to Pat Goeden or Therese Chambers at any time from now. We will be setting up teams to put together the Silent Auction baskets at that meeting. Your item must be submitted with the Silent Auction form filled out. Forms are available at the back table at each meeting and on our website under the member page. Raffle Tickets: Judy and Faye will be selling raffle tickets at the August and September meeting. Remember it is the responsibility of each guild member to sell $20.00 worth of raffle tickets. Bake Sale Items: All members are responsible to bring 2 items for the bake sale. You can drop them off on Thursday Oct. 19th at setup or you can drop them off early on Friday morning before the show. Set-Up: All members are responsible helping with set-up. We have a system in place that works well if everyone helps. We understand that not everyone can climb a ladder to put quilts up, but we have jobs for those of you who are unable to physically hang the quilts. Set-up will start at noon on October 19th. Please contact Nancy Ware if you are unable to help. Challenge Quilt: Let s set a record for entries into the challenge quilt. The quilt block must be a 12 inch square (can be 12.5 inches if you re going to use it as part of a bigger quilt) and must have a piece of lace in it. The outer edges can be unfinished. This challenge is open to the public and is being advertised at the Quilt Museum. You need to fill out a registration form for the challenge quilt. Page 2

At the September meeting we will have the start of sign-up sheets for the various jobs at the show. We will also have a sign up sheet for anyone interested in joining a team to create a basket for the Silent Auction. The chairs of each committee have been busy preparing for the show and I think you will all be pleased. If anyone has any questions regarding the show, please send me (Nancy Ware) an (nware1953@gmail.com) or call ( ). Quilt Show Bake Sale Time to display your culinary skills NSQG for our Quilt Show. 4 Silent Auction The Silent Auction has been an important part of our show and we would like to have a higher participation rate of guild members than we have had in the past so we are trying a new program of helping people get together to create baskets. There will be a sign up list at the Sept. meeting for anyone interested in joining 2 or 3 people to create a basket for the Silent Auction. If you have already donated or plan to donate a Silent Auction item, you do not need to participate in the basket option. Page 4 Here s what you will need to do: At the September meeting sign up with 2 or 3 people to create a basket. We can help you find a team if you are new to the guild or just don t know what to do. Decide on a theme and discuss with your team what each team member will bring to create a basket of goodies at the October meeting. Purchase or make the items you have decided to put into the basket before the October 11th meeting. Bring your items to the October 11th meeting. At the October 11th meeting, you will create your basket. Baskets will be provided at the meeting and the Silent Auction chairs and other members will be there to help you. (I even heard that their might be prizes for the most creative or interesting baskets.) Ideas for Basket themes: Pumpkin pie, Halloween or other holiday theme, wool applique, knitting, young girl or young boy, chocolate, coffee and/or tea, gardening, kitchen stuff, baking, reading, quilting, baby, holiday entertaining, Get Well Soon, etc. It does not have to be quilting related. I am sure many of you can come up with other creative ideas. MORE details to come at September meeting!! If you have any questions, please contact Therese Chambers (therese4131@yahoo.com) Page 4
5 Update on Demonstra ons As many of you know a endees can purchase a joint cket that will get them into our quilt show and to the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts. Demonstra on chairs Judy Raddatz and Lucille Pagel have done a great job of coordina ng the demonstra ons with the museum. As part of the coopera on between NSQG and the Museum the demonstra ons are going to be held at the museum each day at: 11AM: Wool Applique with Jean Knutson 1PM: Punch Needle with Nancee Ariagno (Open Studio a er) 3PM: Needle turned applique with Lucille Pagel Each demonstra on will be around 20 minutes and will be held in the lobby of the museum. Thursday October 19th: Set up (12PM): This involves hanging quilts. And placing the signage for each quilt. We usually have people sign up to either help hang the quilts or be a helper to the person hanging the quilts. We understand not everyone can hang quilts, but your help is needed to hand people pins or tell them how to adjust the quilt they are hanging. This is very important that everyone helps so it goes quickly. We are usually done in 3 hours. We will need four people to help with Check in (Thursday) and Check out (Saturday). Ellie DeLia is the chair for this. Friday October 20th Saturday October 21st: People need to sign up to work at least one shi. 8 Hand Laundry Service for Quilts and Fine Linens First, a bit of history about our hand-laundry service... The Laundry is located in Milwaukee, WI where for over 50 years we have been caring for (hand-laundering and restoring) new, heirloom and antique linens... including hand and machine made quilts! After laundering, we hand block the linens and quilts to their original dimensions on large padded tables (a quilter s dream come true!). This oldworld technique produces a superior finish and is unduplicated at any other laundry facility in the country. We are proud to serve customers Coast to Coast! In addition, we also manufacture and sell our specialty laundry powder, the same laundry powder we use here at The Laundry, perfect for laundering quilts at home! Visit our website for more information regarding our services and products! Demonstration Opportunity at the Milwaukee Maker Faire Anyone interested in demonstrating at the Milwaukee Maker Faire.? The Milwaukee Maker Faire is part of an international movement to showcase people who make things (Makers) and the things that they make. Milwaukee is one of the largest Maker Faires in the country and is the largest free Maker Faire. Last year attendance was over 45,000 people over two days. I have a booth for Fiber Artists and am looking for demonstrators who are available any time on Saturday September 23 from 10 am to 7 pm or on Sunday September 24 from 10 am to 5 pm at Milwaukee State Fair Park. In my booth I am trying to increase the participation of fiber and handwork guilds and artists to show people the variety of high quality hand made work that is available and to get information out about the many different guilds in the area. Last year we had demonstrators who crochet, smock, needlepoint and tat. Everyone who participated enjoyed themselves. Demonstrators are free to hand out information about their guilds, classes they offer or items they sell but cannot sell anything in the booth. If interested contact Jenny Ross jenny60060@gmail.com More information about the Maker Faire is available here: Page 8
