6 Hey there, Havasu Stitchers ARIZONA ROCKS TO THE 50 S Havasu Stitchers has the privilege of hosting the Arizona Rocks to the 50 s Bridge of Friendship XIII Quilt Show Thursday, October 31st Preview Party, Friday and Saturday, November 1-2, Our event has over 1,000 participants from over 4 states. The event is held at the Lake Havasu Aquatic and Community Center. The event proceeds provide continued education and community outreach. We support over 20 of our assisted living centers and interagency providing Quilts, Bibs, Walker Bags and plenty of comfort. 14 Community Outreach Our goal: To share our love of sewing and help people in our community. Mona Bolen/Linda Higuera We are a group of caring quilters who gather once a month to create useful, needed and functional items to reach out to our care homes to help the guests enjoy the late years of their lives. Please come and join us! Community Outreach completed another successful year thanks to your efforts. We learned and laughed and completed a ton of walker bags, dining scarfs and beautiful lap quilts for our seniors. There will be no meeting in December due to the Stitchers Christmas Party and the holidays. 22 Havasu Stitchers General Meeting Minutes December 2, 2018 The meeting was called to order at 12:27 PM by President Cathy Geer. A motion to approve the minutes of the November 1 General Meeting was made by Maria Rhodes; second by Shirley Rodgers; motion carried. President Geer introduced two special guests who have been in and out of the lives of Havasu Stitchers: Lula Mae Simplicity Dress (Susan George) and Mini Peel Thimbleberry (Jeanette Kennedy). They have been traveling around the country but were invited back to town for the Christmas Party by Bufford (Kevin Cabbage). They will present demos on pillowcases and quilt sleeves at general meetings beginning in February, since each quilt displayed in the Quilt Show must have one of each. The Christmas Party Committee was recognized. Happy Birthday was sung to Sherri Ashford. Pincushions were exchanged in a Chinese Auction. Musical Chairs was played by contestants who wore Ugly Christmas sweaters; winner was Mary Lou Van Dreel. 23 Winners of the centerpieces at each table were determined by silent auction. Joan Wurster was thanked for making the red pyramid table decorations. President Geer announced that Linda Higuera has been selected Member of the Year by vote taken at the November general meeting. Linda will be honored at the January meeting. Christmas gifts for residents in area assisted living homes will be presented on Tuesday, December 4 at 11:00 AM at New Horizons, 2045 Moyo Drive, and 1:00 PM at Casa Grande, 3801 Buena Vista. Members are invited to wear Christmas sweaters and sing carols at the facilities. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Nancy Reed; second by Mindy Hoium; motion carried.
