Your auction committee has prepared over 200 items with opening bids at $1.00 to $10.00! Fabric, sewing machines, quilting frames and even a Kitchen Aid Mixer! Sign in to get your bid number paddle at registration table. Cash and checks accepted to purchase your treasures from the auction items. Don t miss out on some awesome deals and tons of fun! 3 Gwinnett Quilts of Valor Quilters Our next meeting is on Thursday, February 15th at 10:00am at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 319 Grayson Highway, Lawrenceville This is the week before the guild meeting. Bring your sewing machine and current project to work on. We will break for a short business meeting and show and tell at lunch time. Bring your lunch or pickup fast food nearby. THERE WILL BE NO "JUST FOR YOU" TABLE AT THE FEBRUARY GUILD MEETING! I will have a chair near the check-in table with labels, some easy kits with backings (in a bag) and some backing for those who are working on "A, B, C quilts. Think about what you want to do to help with the presentation day. We have a need for clipboard people to take donators names and quantities; runners to get the quilts into the sanctuary; displayers to help lay the quilts over the back of the pews; and many washers to wash the hundreds of quilts anticipated. Sign ups will be in March. The quilt drop off point is different this year: it will at the main church entrance, under the overhang. MORE INFORMATION IN MARCH! 5 Gwinnett Quilters Guild Membership Meeting January 16, 2018 Minutes The meeting was called to order by President Gordon at 10:00 at Cannon United Methodist Church. Happy New Year and welcome to everyone. New Business The Just For You celebration will be in April this year. Bonnie Hunter is coming the first Thursday in May. Because of the Auction at the February Guild Meeting, there will not be a library table. The library committee will be selling discarded and donated books. There will not be a Just For You table, but see Teresa Schultz to get kits. There will not be a workshop sign up table. See Chris Jenkins or Gloria Fjeld if you have questions. There will not be a Show and Tell. There will not be a Birthday Table. February birthdays can still bring their gift. Kay Crutcher and Mary Bunek will hold until the March Guild meeting. There are no minutes to approve or Treasurer s report because at the December Guild meeting it was voted to dispense with the minutes and treasurer s report because of the Christmas Luncheon. Membership/Directory Cheri Gilleland The Directories are here and are being distributed at the meeting. Cheri asked Kathy Meyer to stand so the membership could thank her and her son, Erich Schlarb, for printing the Directories free of charge. Erich s company, Voom Group Inc., printed, collated, bound and shipped the Directories free for the Guild. Eric attended Brookwood High School and owned a local print shop until he started his new company, Voom Group, Inc. The Guild has 4 new members: Barbara Davis, Polly Pohlman, Carol Kreson, and Karen Radde. The new members are wearing Name Tag Flowers. Please be sure to meet and welcome them. Friendship Gretchen Cuthbert Shirley Durden s husband is still in Rehab. Sherry Kosmetatos had back surgery, and Bobbie Cox s son and wife are expecting child # 7. Just For You Theresa Schultz The Celebration and presentation will be at the April Guild meeting. There are lots of kits available. There will not be a Just For You table next month. The labels are not available. Theresa will have them at the February Board meeting and the February Guild meeting. The Just 4 U Bee will meet Wednesday at In Town Quilters. Theresa showed a quilt and discussed quilting techniques. Vice President Wendy Stewart The Christmas Luncheon was fabulous. Thank you to Betsy Podriznik for chairing the Luncheon. 297 placemats were collected and delivered to Meals on Wheels. 100 clients received the Christmas placemats. Next year, the Guild will need to change the due date for the placemats so Meals on Wheels can get them to the clients before Christmas. The Cannon Cause this month is canned goods. February s Cannon Cause is gently used or new children s books. Cannon Methodist Church sponsors a tutoring program. Their goal is to give at least 2 books to each child that participates. The After Guild Workshop today is Judging Quilts presented by Shannon Armstrong. The next After Guild Workshop will be in March presented by Nancie Paucke on Barn Blocks. Richard Hood made an announcement that there were lots of items on the Give Away Table. Programs Chris Jenkins & Gloria Fjeld The March speaker canceled. The new speaker is David Gilleland from Vector Quilts. The topic will be either on Quilting & Negative Space or Paper Piecing VS Traditional Piecing. April will be the Just For You celebration. In May, Bonnie Hunter will present. If someone signed up for the Bonnie Hunter workshop and can t make it, see Chris because she has a waiting list. In June, Sandy Fitzpatrick from Hissyfitz Designs will sponsor a workshop on Free Motion Quilting. In July, the Guild will hold an indoor picnic. Volunteers are needed. There is a signup sheet. Betsy Podriznik thanked everyone who helped with the Christmas Luncheon. Karen Bensman and Theresa Schultz were thanked for always coming early to set up the room for Guild meetings. Auction Joan Fisher The Auction takes place at the February Guild meeting. There are a lot of items donated such as 2 quilt frames, 4 sewing machines, and a kitchen aid mixer. Shirley Weaver s husband is tuning up the sewing machines. Amy Martin is the auctioneer. Come and bring dollars. Items will be set up starting at 8:00am. Volume 38, Issue 6 Page 5

6 Program Gloria Fjeld introduced Patty Murphy who presented a Trunk Show. She is the author of Piecing Makeover. Quilt holders were: Marsha White, Elaine Price, Wendy Stewart, Gloria Fjeld, and Mary Porath. After the program, President Gordon presented Patty with an honorary membership pin. It was announced that new members needed to see Richard Hood to have their picture taken for the directory. The Guild honored Ann Gravelle s 90 th birthday with a birthday cake during a 15 minute break. President Susan Gordon Susan gave a report of a thank you note for a Just For You quilt that was posted on the Guild Website. Deanna Parker and Joan Beatty made the quilt. Quilt of Valor Betsy Podriznik Betsy announced that February 3 rd is National Sew Day for Quilts of Valor. She encouraged Guild members to join QOV for $5.00. Ginny Manning is collecting money today. On National Sew Day, members can sew anywhere and still be eligible for the prizes. The regular QOV sew day is Thursday January 18 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church at 10:00. Susan Gordon announced that Betsy if the founder of National Sew Day. Library - Judy Swafford The library is working on getting more space for the books. The weather is cold, so find a good book! Retreat Shirley Weaver There are 3 spots left for the July Retreat. Announcements Bring money for the Auction next month. Donations are closing, but contact Joan Fisher if you have something to donate. Donations are not to be brought to the February Guild meeting. No Birthday table next month, but bring your gift and it will be sponsored on the March Birthday table. Welcome to all our visitors.
