1 The Guild Cable Annual yarn auction: Thursday, May 5th Information to be aware of: Our annual yarn auction will be on Thursday, May 5th. The auction is for members only and helps to offset many Guild activities. The auction will offer time to preview the items available beginning at 6:00. We will have a brief meeting to vote on nominees for office at 7:00. The auction will begin at 7:15. Save the dates May 14th-15th-Ann Budd will be teaching a number of classes to those who registered for our spring seminar June 2nd-President's tea party and fashion show. Please plan on sharing the one item you knit this Guild season you are most proud of.. The Presidents Letter Dear Knitting Friends, The meetings are quickly coming to the end, but we re not there yet! Our May meeting is the Yarn Auction. It s going to be exciting, and as always is an exclusive members only event. Prepare yourself by thinking of your future projects, and what you might like to make with this year s auction offerings. We also have Ann Budd coming on May 14th and 15th for those of you who registered for our Spring Seminar. Our June meeting will be a social Tea Party and fashion show this year, so I ask you to bring a small plate of something to share that you would expect at a tea party. Feel free to bring your teapot and cozy to share a cuppa with your neighbors. The fashion show will be focused on modeling/showing something that you are most proud of that you knit this year. I can t wait to see everyone s projects. We ll also have a special presentation for you from the board regarding exciting plans for next year, so don t miss it! As this year ends, I would like to say a special thank you to the board members for their help and support. It has been a very rewarding experience representing the Guild this year as President. As I take my leave, I would like to put forth a couple of summertime challenges to all the members. Novelist and short story writer, Ann Hood, has edited and written several stories on how knitting helps in healing, as people travel on their life journeys. I would like you all to read at least one of her books over the summer. If you are interested, try downloading an audio book version, so that you could knit and listen at the same time. Also, I would like you to knit a swatch of something completely different to what you normally do. Keep that creativity fresh! Have a wonderful and safe summer. 5 By Susy Palcic and Gina Passantino Summer Read/Knit Along Summer Challenge To celebrate an exciting visit from author Ann Hood in October we are suggesting a fun idea for a Summer Read/Knit Along. She has two books that combine knitting and writing. In both Knitting Yarns and Knitting Pearls, familiar authors like Diana Gabaldon, Christina Baker Kline, Sue Grafton, and Barbara Kingsolver, write a chapter about knitting. Also included are a variety of knitting patterns. We thought it would be fun for everyone to read one of her books and then knit one of the projects from the books for a little summer fun. We will display your work in October when Ann comes, won't she be surprised! Other books include: The Knitting Circle, The Red Thread, Somewhere off the Coast of Maine, An Ornithologist's Guide to Life, Comfort: A Journey Through Grief, The Obituary Writer, and An Italian Wife.
