2 Finished size of quilt is 46 x 46 You will need the following: 1 x 10 half hexi template. 1 x 1 1/ x 1 1/ square template for cutting the blocks. For the half hexi you will need to choose 6 fabric combinations, from those 6 colours you will need to cut one 0 x 4 WOF, this allows you to cut 9 half hexi s from each colour. For the sashing you will need one 7 x 4 WOF of white fabric. Binding 1.5 x 4 WOF Backing approximate requirements 1/ YD or 16 x WOF. Cut 9 half hexi s from each colour you have selected Attaching the first two half hexi s. Placing the right sides as per diagram. Attaching third half hexi. Placing the right sides as per diagram. Attaching fourth half hexi. Placing the right sides as per diagram. Attaching fifth half hexi. Placing the right sides as per diagram. Attaching sixth half hexi. Placing the right sides as per diagram. Sew 1/4 seam. Press seams to dark side of fabrics before proceeding to the next stage.

3 1 1/ x 1 1/ inch ruler Press the last remainder hexi seam. You will now have a finished block that looks like the above image. Centre your 1 1/ x 1 1/ square ruler and trim off excess. Note: when placing the ruler on top of your fabric block there should be no blank fabric areas. First finished block 1 1/ x 1 1/ block. Repeat this process for the remainder of you half hexi s till all 9 blocks are complete. Alternating the colours within each of the blocks. You are now left with nine 1 1/ x 1 1/1 square blocks. When laying out your blocks alternate the directions by flipping and turning each block to get the desired effect. Sashing : Cut nine x 4 WOF strips. From strips cut the following six x 1 1/ four x 41 1/ two x 46 1/ You will have more than enough strips to join for the length needed for outside sashings. Take your first completd block and one of the x 1 1/ sashing strips. Placing rights sides sew a 1/4 seam. As per the diagram. Press seams towards the kaleidocope block before proceeding. TIP: by pressing seams away from the white fabric towards kaleidoscope block it will eleminate any colour showing on the white sashing once quilt is complete.

4 1 Join the second block to the other side of the first sashing with a 1/4 seam Continue the above process till the first three blocks are joined compleing the first row. Do this with each of the rows rememebering to press your seams to the coloured block side Joining the rows: Take one of the x 41.5 strips. You should have one each for top and bottom and two for the rows inbetween. 1 Tip: When pinning the sashing pin from the middle out to the ends. 1 Take your first row and and one of the x 41.5 sashing strips. Place the rights sides, Pin in place and sew 1/4 seam across the top. As per the above diagram. Pressing seam to block side. Continue with with the remainding sashing. 4 4

5 1 Joining left and right sashing. Take one of the x 46 1/ sashing strips, one for left side and one for the right side. Placing right sides sew the left side sashing using a 1/4 seam allowances. Again pressing seam to the coloured block side. Repeat this process on the left side with the second sashing. You now have a finished quilt top of 46 1/ x 46 1/. Approximate fabric requirements for backing: 1/ YD or 16. Cut two pieces from backing fabric at least 60 1/ x 4. Join with a 1/ seam. Quilting options: Option 1 Once you have joined your backing fabric place it on a flat surface facing wrong side up. Smooth out any wrinkles before placing the desired batting on top of the backing fabric. Lastly place your quilt top with the right side facing you smooth out any wrinkles in the fabric. Using quilters pins, pin all three layers. You are now ready to quilt the layers using your desired pattern. Option Some quilters choose to have this done by a professional and you can drop off your three layers and have them put it for you. Once you have completed this stage of the quilt you are ready to attach the binding. 5

6 trim 1/4 from seam Joing the binding: Cut 5 strips from the your 1.5 x 4 WOF binding fabric. Line up edges of binding strips with right sides. Draw a line diagoanally across fabric from corner to corner. Pin in place and sew along this line. Trim off excess fabric making sure to allow for a 1/4 seam. Contine this process till all binding strips are joined. You are now ready to attach the binding. Pressing seams open. With the right side of quilt facing you join binding to finished quilt. Starting at the centre of one side of the quilt. Pin binding to raw edges of your quilt leaving 10 of your binding unstitched. Sew along the raw edge with 1/4 seam stopping 1/4 from the first corner and back stitch. 0 To mitre your corners fold your binding up at a 45 angle. Fold your binding back down toward the next sides raw edge pin in place. Starting with a backstitch continue along that side stopping 1/4 from the next corner and backstitch. Following the same instructions shown in the diagram to mitre your corners. Continue this process around each corner of your quilt stopping 10 from where you started. 1/ overlap When joining ends you will need to lay the top flat away from your machine. Bring one side of your binding to meet the other overlap one side by /1/ (the same width of your binding). Trim off excess from that side. Open ends with right sides at a right angle. Pin in place, draw a line from corner to corner. Check you haven t twisted the binding before you sew the seam. Trim 1/4 from that seam and press open. Stitch the rest of the binding in place. Press the binding away from the quilt top. Turning your quilt over to the back. Flip the binding over the edge making sure to cover your stitching. Pin in place and hand stitch the binding to the backing fabric. all rights reserved by 6
