What happened to summer? It seems like I blinked my eyes and another season has flown by. I really would love fall, but unfortunately it is followed by winter, which is not my favorite season. I am not a cold weather person, except for it gives me excuses to make more quilts! Soon we will be getting out all our autumn and holiday items. Or maybe it is theperfect time to start some fall-inspired projects. Last meeting we saw several fun ideas for gifts, so now is the time to start (or finish) them. The UFO challenge that Val started at the beginning of the year is quickly coming to an end. How are your projects coming along? I didn t think I really had any UFOs, but I remembered my jelly roll race project from I really didn t like how my jelly roll turned out sewn together, so I had big plans to cut it apart into strips and reassemble it complete with appliqués and other special treatments. Luckily, I wrote and drew out my plans and ideas, or I would have had to start all over. At least I did that before I shoved it in a drawer for over a year! Well, I finally dragged it out of the drawer, and I spent 3 hours sitting on my living room floor arranging appliqué pieces. (OUCH!! My back and knees are not happy with me!) I m hoping to have the project done by the end of the year, so I will be working on it over the next however long it takes me. Hope everyone had a safe Labor Day weekend. 2 September 11TH--Mudsock Quilters Guild Meeting (9:30 11:30+) The next Mudsock Quilters Guild meeting is September 11 at the Community Health Building at 146 th and Cumberland. We will be having a presentation by several members of the Modern Quilt Guild of Indy. They will do a presentation in the morning during the regular meeting, and an activity/ workshop in the afternoon. Please bring your usual sewing supplies if you want to participate in the workshop (sewing machine, scissors, thread, cutting mat, rulers, etc.) In addition, bring markers or pens and scraps or fat quarters of fabrics (solids are encouraged) in the following colors: whites, blacks, grays, tans, yellows, reds, blues and dark greens. If you do not wish to participate in the project, you are still welcome to stay and sew. Hope to see you all there! The push is on for all members who have not donated a quilt - if you turn in a completed quilt at our next Mudsock meeting on August 14th, you will be eligible for our drawing for a great prize. If you turn in more than one quilt, you will get an extra ticket for the drawing. Don't forget to put your name on your quilt and turn in any receipts for batting and backs for reimbursement. 3 Community North Quilting Bee Quilt Show - December 2nd Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 2nd when we will have our first quilt show of all the quilts donated this year. We have a goal of 200 quilts and it should be amazing to see them all together. Location: Christ The Savior Lutheran Church, E. 126th Street, Fishers Time: 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Entrance Fee: $5 donation Missouri Star Bus Trip We will depart on Oct 10, 2017 and return on Oct 12 stopping at a Hickory Stick Quilt store in Hannibal, Missouri for shopping and lunch. On Oct. 11th we have all day to shop in the MSQC stores, then sit down and relax with a catered dinner. Afterwards Jenny Doan is scheduled to present a trunk show and WE are invited. 4 Block of the Month NEWS For information and directions for the September Block, Disappearing Hourglass 2, go to the Mudsock website at for the details. Use a medium to dark batik and a white or white on white background. The basic instructions, can be found on However, the initial measurements are different in order to have a 12.5 unfinished or 12 finished block to go along with the rest of our BOMs for this year. It's really fun and easy to make, but looks much more complicated when you are done! Raintree Quilters Guild presents their Harvest of Quilts XII Show at the Old National Events Plaza Ballroom, 715 Locust St., Evansville, IN, 9 AM to 5 PM, $8 admission. Quilt exhibits, Quilt for the Cure Raffle Quilt, Merchant Mall, handcrafted items boutique, raffle baskets.
