1 Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild Newsletter Volume 30, Issue 11, November 3, 2017 The Guild With Heart The next meeting will be on Monday, November 13, :00 P.M. at Messiah Lutheran Church (in the gym) in Mauldin, South Carolina. From the President: It is hard to believe that November is here. Where has this year gone? As we each contemplate our quilting each year, do you ever wonder how you became interested in quilting? Was your mother or grandmother your inspiration? Each of us has a story about how we became hooked on quilting and being that most of them are different is one of the things that make our guild special. We are known as the guild with heart and I know that to be SO true. I am blessed to be serving as your guild president this year. Many thanks to Pat Hubbard and all her committee chairs for the magnificent quilt show that we had. A show of this caliber cannot be done without all the helping hands of our membership. You all did AWESOME! Our nominating committee presented a slate of officers for the upcoming year and we will vote on these officers at the November meeting. Thanks to everyone who is considering serving our guild in an officer capacity. Thanks to our nominating committee: Pam Nugent, Chairman; Julie Wood, and Gloria Talliferro. Don t forget if you attended my round robin station with string pieced blocks to bring your block for the drawing. A gift bag will be given to the winner. These blocks will be donated to Habitat chairman to be used in a quilt. Happy quilting, Shelia Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild Officers 2017 President Shelia Chandler Vice-President Susan Perham Secretary Pat Ruff Treasurer Patty Stonitsch Newsletter Editor Ruth Bartholomew Webmaster Gloria Taliaferro From the Vice-President: For November, we are planning to have Teresa Coolidge. 4 ROUND ROBIN - PICK A THEME We have 2 more blocks to finish. One is due in November and the last one is due in December. We will get together sometime after the New Year to share our completed blocks. Then we will bring them to share with the guild. This has been such a fun activity! The blocks are made according to a particular theme. These themes have included Halloween, Christmas, travel, birds, sewing, Texas, and more. Everyone has been so creative! For those in the group, be sure to remember to bring your completed block to the November meeting and pass it to the next person on your list. Thanks, Mona Quilts of Valor At the Quilt Show, we awarded Quilts of Valor to 5 veterans. Two who served in Vietnam and three who served in Afghanistan. In November, we will award over 40 quilts with Veterans Day being a very busy day. We are selling tee shirts and caps as a fund raiser to support us financially in order to purchase material, batting, etc. to make more quilts for our deserving Veterans. We are on track in the Upstate to award approximately 400 quilts by the end of Keep in mind, that the Upstate We thank you for all you do. --- Ken and Helen (For more information about Quilts of Valor check out are free patterns available as well as information how to nominate a veteran for a quilt. ) Habitat for Humanity Philanthropy We have an upcoming Dedication!! The Jackson family will receive the keys to their Habitat home on November 29 th at11:30am. Their new home is located at 107 Joe Louis Street in Greenville. The family consists of Mom Jasmine, and two children: Janiya age 3, and Jakoby 6 months. Join us at the dedication if you can! We look forward to your continued support of Habitat for Humanity. Our most recent inventory of finished quilts indicates that teen and adult quilts are in short supply at this time. Also, don t forget to complete your string piecing block that Sheila provided to each of us. I can tell you with conviction that our presence and our quilts at the dedications are often the highlight of the entire ceremony We have a considerable amount of fabric donations and batting for Habitat from many generous sources. (We could use some adult-suitable yardage that can be used for backings of our quilts.) Please do not hesitate to use these resources as you plan your next Habitat quilt. If you need any particular fabric family to complete your Habitat quilt, let Becky Schwartz know. We can bring an assortment to Guild to supplement your planned quilt top. 4
