1 2016 FARM AND HOME EXHIBITS These exhibits will be entered at Expo Building at fairgrounds. Anyone having questions concerning the Farm and Home Exhibits may call or write Bridgett Jolkowski. RULES AND REGULATIONS All entries must be raised or made by the exhibitor. No one can enter exhibits for another person. NO EXHIBITOR SHALL HAVE MORE THAN ONE ENTRY IN ANY ONE SECTION. All entries must be registered between 8:00am and 12:00pm SATURDAY, AUGUST 6, and be picked up between 5:00-7:00pm the last day of the fair. Judging will take place SATURDAY afternoon, AUGUST 6. No one will be admitted during the judging. The exhibits will be open to the public on SUNDAY and MONDAY from 10:00am to 7:30pm TUESDAY from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Entries must be picked up between 5:00pm and 7:00pm TUESDAY evening. Premiums will be paid at time of pick up. Any exhibit picked up early or not picked up by 7:00 p.m. will forfeit the premium. There will be a premium limit of $20.00 per family. Articles receiving premiums previous years cannot be reentered. The management will use diligence to insure the safety of the articles after their arrival but in no circumstance will they be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur. Okra, plate of Ornamentals, 3 TIPS FOR VEGETABLE PREPARATION BEANS (Snap)-Place in freezer bag and store in refrigerator until ready for exhibit. Leave 1/2 inch of stem on pod. Exhibit 6 pods. BEETS-Tops 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. Leaves cause wilting of roots. Roots should be washed, but not scrubbed so as to break skin. Exhibit 3 specimens. CABBAGE-Do not peel excessively. One to 2 outer leaves may be left on. Trim butt close to head. Exhibit one head. CARROTS-Top 1-1 1/2 inches long. Roots 1-2 1/2 inches in diameter. Roots should be washed, but not scrubbed so as to break the skin. Exhibit 6 specimens. CAULIFLOWER-Trim jacket leaves even with top of head. Some of the lower leaves may be removed. Exhibit one head. CUCUMBERS-Leave stem 1/2 inch long, wipe clean. Size: pickling, 2-3 inches: dill, 5 inches: slicing 6-8 inches. Exhibit 3 per specimens. EGGPLANT-Use thumb pressure to determine maturity. One inch of stem attached. Exhibit one specimen. KOHLRABI-Cut tops 1-3 inches in length. Do not trim roots too closely. Exhibit 3 specimens. MUSKMELON-Do not wash. Exhibit1. ONIONS (Dry)-Remove no more than one layer of skin to clean. Best if no skin is removed. Do not cut tops so low that bulb is injured. Leave 1 inch long. Do not wash. Trim roots to 1/4 inch. Do not trim roots closely or bulb may be damaged. Exhibit 3 specimens. PEPPERS-Weight is of considerable importance. Leave stem 1/2 to 1 inch long. Exhibit 5 specimens. POTATOES-Brush or wipe off with soft cloth. Can be washed but do not scrub heavily. Exhibit 5 specimens. PUMPKIN and SQUASH Exhibit with 2 inches of stem attached. Summer Squash should have soft rind and be in eating stage. Pumpkins and winter squash should have hard rind. Exhibit one specimen of pumpkin or winter squash, 3-5 specimens of summer squash.

3 SWEET CORN - Remove husk from one side of ear. Corn deteriorates rapidly if entire husk is removed. Trim silk to within 1 inch of tip of husk. Shank 1 to 2 inches long. Exhibit 6 ears. TOMATOES-Over-ripeness is a common fault. Five specimens per plate. If displaying cherry type, use 1/2 pint volume. Refrigerate before displaying. Display without stems.
