1 1 An easy to make wallet pattern, ideal for giving gift cards or money You will need: 1. Outer fabric - Any light weight fabric of your choice. 2. Lining Any light weight fabric of your choice. Use a contrasting print or a striking plain colour 3. Firm fusible interlining (I use Vilene F250) 4. Co-ordinating Ribbon 30cm (12 ) cut this in half 5. All Purpose thread to match outer Seam allowance is 1cm (3/8 ) throughout The seam allowance is included in the pattern piece Approximate finished dimensions: 6cm x 10cm ( ) Skill level: Easy

2 2 Printing instructions: Make sure you tick actual size when you send to print or your printer could automatically reduce the size. There is a 1 square control box shown on the pattern, make sure it does measure 1 before you start cutting. Cutting instructions From pattern piece A: Cut 1 in your outer fabric Cut 1 in lining Cut 2 in firm fusible interfacing trim corners off Fuse interfacing to fabrics From Pattern piece B Cut 2 in lining fabric (If you only want one pocket cut just 1) Cut 2 in firm fusible interfacing trim corners off Fuse interfacing to fabrics Instructions Cut and fuse all pieces as instructed above. Take your two small lining pieces B. Fold in half across the width with wrong sides together.

3 3 Place your large lining piece A, right side up, with the long bottom edge facing you. Lay the two small pocket pieces right side up on top, one at each end with the folded edges facing in towards the centre, raw edges to the outside. Pin or clip in place. Tip: Use matching or tonal thread to make up the case. I have used contrasting red thread just so it is easy to see. Baste in place by stitching close to the edge all the way round. Tip: keep the stitching within the seam allowance ie less than 1 cm (3/8 ) so it won t show after the wallet is made up. Set aside. Lay your outer piece A right side up. Take your ribbon (cut in half) and pin in place at the centre of each of the short edges as shown The main part of the ribbon is lying in towards the centre of the panel, it will pop out in the right place later when we turn the cover through. Stitch over the ribbon within the 1cm (3/8 ) seam allowance so it doesn t show afterwards.

4 4 Stick the loose ends of the ribbon down in the centre of the body piece with a little sticky tape so it doesn t get caught up in your stitching. Place your lining piece A (with pockets attached) right side up. Lay your outer piece A (with ribbons attached) on top, right side down, so right sides are facing each other. Line up all edges and clip/pin in place. Tip: If you are using a directional print, make sure both panels are running in the same direction. Stitch all the way around the panel with a 1cm (3/8 ) seam allowance, leaving an opening at the bottom of around 9cm (3.5 ).

5 5 Fold up the hem on the bottom edge and press in place this will make it neater and easier when you come to close it later. Trim edges and clip corners. Turn the cover right side out and use a chopstick or other blunt instrument to push the corners out. Remove the sticky tape. Iron your cover nice and flat back and front, turning in the seam allowance at the bottom so there are no raw edges visible. Flip your case over to the front. Top stitch around the whole case 3mm (1/8 ) from the edge, this closes the seam at the bottom and gives it a professional finish. Fold the cover closed and press.

6 6 Add your gift card or money, tie it up with a pretty bow Done! There are lots of variations you can make once you are confident Embroider a name on the front of your cover or make up in a statement print. It doesn t have to be just for Christmas, it works for credit cards, business cards and travel cards too: Use a map print or a lovely old heirloom fabric. You can even print off the pattern on a smaller or larger scale to make different sized cases for other items. The make-up instructions will be exactly the same.
