2 Block Size: 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) Quilt Size: 37" x 45" (94 cm x 114 cm) TEDDY & ME QUILT YARDAGE REQUIREMENTS Yardage is based on 43"/44" (109 cm/112 cm) wide fabric. ⅞ yd (80 cm) of cream straight rib chenille fabric ¼ yd (23 cm) of yellow straight rib chenille fabric ⅜ yd (34 cm) each of purple and green straight rib chenille fabrics ½ yd (46 cm) of blue straight rib chenille fabric 2⅛ yds (1.9 m) of cream flannel fabric for backing and binding You will also need: 41" x 49" (104 cm x 124 cm) piece of batting Yellow worsted weight acrylic yarn to tie quilt [⅛" (3 mm) wide ribbon, embroidery floss, or cotton yarn may be substituted] Quilt Top Diagram Cutting out the pieces All measurements include a ¼" seam allowance. From cream straight rib chenille fabric: Cut 6 strips 4½"w. From these strips, cut 48 squares 4½" x 4½". From yellow straight rib chenille fabric: Cut 1 strip 4½"w. From this strip, cut 8 squares 4½" x 4½". From purple straight rib chenille fabric: Cut 2 strips 4½"w. From these strips, cut 13 squares 4½" x 4½". From green straight rib chenille fabric: Cut 2 strips 4½"w. From these strips, cut 12 squares 4½" x 4½". From blue straight rib chenille fabric: Cut 3 strips 4½"w. From these strips, cut 18 squares 4½" x 4½". Assembling the quilt top Use ¼" seam allowances throughout. 1. Referring to Quilt Top Diagram for the color placement and alternating direction of ribs, sew 9 squares together to make Row. Make 11 Rows. 2. Sew Rows together to complete quilt top. completing the quilt 1. Layer backing (right side down), batting, and quilt top (right side up). Pin layers together with safety pins or stretch on quilting frame. 2. Tie quilt with 2 strands of yellow yarn. Our quilt was tied at corners between squares. 3. 3 TEDDY & ME PILLOW Pillow Size: 12" x 12" (30 cm x 30 cm) Bear Size: Approximately 8" (20 cm) tall YARDAGE REQUIREMENTS Yardage is based on 43"/44" (109 cm/112 cm) wide fabric. ⅜ yd (34 cm) of cream straight rib chenille fabric ¼ yd (23 cm) of dark yellow straight rib chenille fabric Scrap each of light yellow, purple and blue straight rib chenille fabrics ½ yd (46 cm) of green straight rib chenille fabric You will also need: 12" x 12" (30 cm x 30 cm) pillow form Polyester fiberfill Light brown embroidery floss 9" (23 cm) of ¼" (7 mm) wide cream satin ribbon 2. To make Pocket, hem top of Unit 1 by turning raw edge under once ¼" and stitching ⅛" from fold. Pocket 3. Place cream square on flat surface with right side up and ribs running side to side. Aligning bottom edges and with right side facing up, place Pocket on square. 4. Baste Pocket to square at sides and bottom ⅛" from raw edges to make Unit 2. Unit 2 Cutting out the pieces All measurements include a ¼" seam allowance unless indicated otherwise. From cream straight rib chenille fabric: Cut 1 square 9½" x 9½". From dark yellow straight rib chenille fabric: Cut 1 bear and 1 bear in reverse from pattern on page 4. From light yellow straight rib chenille fabric: Cut 1 lengthwise rectangle 2" x 9½". From purple straight rib chenille fabric: Cut 1 crosswise rectangle 2" x 9½". From blue straight rib chenille fabric: Cut 1 crosswise rectangle 2" x 9½". From green straight rib chenille fabric: Cut 1 pillow back 13" x 13". Cut 2 top/bottom borders 2¼" x 13". Cut 2 side borders 2¼" x 9½". Making the Pillow Use ¼" seam allowances throughout. 1. Sew purple, yellow, and blue rectangles together to make Unit 1. Unit 1 5. Referring to Pillow Diagram, add side, top, then bottom borders to Unit 2 to complete pillow top. 6. Place pillow top and pillow back right sides together. Sew pillow top and back together, using ½" seam allowance and leaving an opening at bottom edge for turning. Clip corners. 7. Turn pillow right side out. Insert pillow form and stitch opening closed. 8. With right sides together and leaving a small opening for turning at side, stitch bear front and back together; clip curves. Turn bear right side out and fill with polyester fiberfill; stitch opening closed. Use 6 strands of light brown embroidery floss to add details to bear: Satin Stitches for eyes and nose; Straight Stitches for muzzle and mouth; and Running Stitches to define ears. 5 running Stitch The running stitch consists of a series of straight stitches with the stitch length equal to the space between stitches. Come up at 1, go down at 2, and come up at 3 (Fig. 1).
