1 LACY TWISTED RIB TOE UP SOCK by Fra nce s ca Ros i ni The Lacy Twisted Rib Toe Up socks feature an intricate lacy twisted rib pa ern that pops even with variegated or hand-painted yarn. They have a ribbed gusset and a wedge heel. The instruc ons are wri en for magic loop method of kni ng socks. 2 YARN: 100 g (3.2 oz. / 380 yrds) fingering weight yarn (sample kni ed with Crystal Palace Panda Wool Print, Red Cinnamon No gr 2 skeins that I had in my stash +++ Note that Panda Wool Print has been discon nued late 2008 and replaced by Panda Superwash, same yardage and gauge. +++) GAUGE: 8 st per inch, 12 rows per inch N EEDLES: US size 1 ( 2.25 mm) 40 circular needles, adjust to obtain correct gauge FINISHED SIZE: Women's Large: 9 around ball of foot PATTERN N OTES: The istruc ons are wri en for kni ng with the magic loop or 2 circs. 5 RIBBED GUSSET The ribbed gusset is worked on needle #2 (sole) making a purl s tch in between two knit s tches by li ing the strand between two s tches with the le needle, back to front, and then purling this s tch. The ribbing will work itself towards the center of the sock. This gusset is increased every three rounds but it's easy to spot the bumps of the last M1p to make the following instruc ons redundant a er a couple of increases. A total of 24 s tches will be increased on the sole needle when you are done with this sec on, 12 on each side. SETUP ROUND FOR HEEL TURN (only for the simple gusset) Page 6 of 8

7 Round 1: Needle #1: Con nue with pa ern on the instep Round 2: Needle #1: Con nue with pa ern on the instep Needle #2: k 28, pm, k28 TURNING THE HEEL You will now work back and forth on the sole needle while turning the heel. The instep needle will just wait un l you are done. This is a Fleegle Heel Turn heel as follows: Row 1: (RS) k to the center marker, k 2 more sts, ssk, k1, turn Row 2: (WS) sl1, p to the center marker, p 2 more sts, p2tog, p1, turn Row 3: sl1, k to st before the gap (remove center marker when you get to it), ssk, k1, turn Row 4: sl1, p to st before the gap, p2tog, p1, turn Repeat rows 3 and 4 un l one gusset st remains at each side of heel and finishing with a WS row With RS facing, you will begin working in rounds again (last 2 gusset sts will be decreased during setup rnds) Setup round 1: K to second last st, ssk, and begin to knit in the round again con nuing the pa ern for the instep Next round: k2tog on the first 2 sts of the sole needle, k to end and con nue to knit in the round in pa ern for the instep needle. Con nue in pa ern on needle #1 and k all on needle #2 un l Leg is as tall as you like minus 1 inch for ribbing. RIBBING Round 1 (setup): Needle #1:*p1, k1tbl* end with p1 Needle #2:*k1tbl, p1* end with k2tog Round 2: Needle #1:*p1, k1tbl* end with p1 Needle #2:*k1tbl, p1* end with k1tbl Page 7 of 8
