2 Sock Advent Calendar True Brit knits Designed to use up leftovers of yarn. Knit socks plain or striped as you wish, then cross stitch the day number onto them in a contrasting colour. Charts are given if you want to further embellish the socks so that once the day has been opened the sock can be turned around so that no number is visible but a pattern is. The socks use 2 different heels and 2 different toes so you can practise your techniques as well as use up oddments of yarn. The 4 ply and DK socks are ideal for stuffing with sweets, single mini-sized bars of chocolate or tiny gifts, the aran weight sock will hold larger bars of chocolate or slightly larger gifts. So long as you knit 24 socks it really doesn t matter what weights they all are, and the more colours the merrier Varying yarn weights and needle sizes. Darning needle for embroidery. 2 4mm circs for bag. Note If you wish to knit the pattern (or even the numbers) into the sock rather than Swissdarn / cross stitch them on later remember you will need to work from the top of the chart downwards rather than the bottom of the chart upwards as would be usual. Numbers will have to be worked upside down and back to front in other words if you were knitting 24 in you would need to begin with the upside down 4 and then move onto the upside down 2. Adding them afterwards means it s easier to work them both in different colours if you wish. For Contrast Heel / Toe sock, work sections between * to *, ** to ** and *** to *** in your chosen contrast colour. For Striped sock, work as for Contrast Heel / Toe sock but work st st after ribbing in stripes of 3 rounds per stripe colour beginning and ending with a contrasting colour from the ribbing, work the heel (** to **) in the same solid colour as the ribbing, work foot again in stripes of 3 rounds beginning with the same colour as you worked the heel in and work toe section (*** to ***) in the same colour as heel / ribbing. Basic sock patterns 4-ply / sock yarn sock Using appropriate nds for your yarn cast on 42 sts (sock yarn may need smaller nds than 4-ply). Cast off the first 10 sts to leave a string which will become the loop to hang your sock up in. Arrange the rem 32 sts over your dpns with 8 sts on the 4 nds and join into a round, the string will show you where the rounds start. Ribbing round: *(k2, p2), rep from * Work this round 4 times more. Work now in st st (knit every round) until sock measures 4cm, ending last round 8 sts before the string. **Work heel: Row 1: k15, wt. Row 2: p14, wt. Row 3: k13, wt. Row 4: p12, wt. Row 5: k11, wt.
