Virtual Reality Goggles CMID/AGUERIS
Project managers Members of the team: Benoit Rolland (COO), Emmanuel Chiva (CSO), Bernard Langlais (Technical Director), Youri Dmitriev (developer) Sponsor: Yves Jourde (CEO) Skills required: Knowledge of the material components (evaluation of the various VR goggles, technical configuration), ability to manage the 3D model available in the simulator, computer graphics
What has been achieved to date The initial idea was to create a marketing tool for the CMID commercial team enabling it to demonstrate the turrets capability to the customer including the capabilities of the simulation tool. An easy-to-use device was the aim. Virtual reality goggles responded to this need providing the immersive possibilities of 3D while remaining easy to use and manipulate. A working scenario was established using two AB turrets from the Tank Commander s and the Gunner s positions. The innovation is to allow the CMI Group to operate the VR goggles and the utilisation of the 3D model available in the simulator (limiting the cost of the project) 3
Project objectives The initial objective has been reached: the CMID commercial team will from now on benefit from a high-tech marketing tool, enabling it to demonstrate our technological capabilities Additional objective: This project is of more general interest for the CMI Group by applying the same concept to many other situations. The only condition is to have the corresponding 3D model at one s disposal when installing the VR goggles Pierre Gattaz, Président du MEDEF
Public involved/ concerned Initially, the CMID and Agueris commercial teams Subsequently, many CMI employees have been able to experiment with VR goggles (e.g. during the CMI Executive Convention held in September) Lastly, the general public, potential customers and guests of CMI. Presentation of VR goggles during specific trade fairs (Medef, A-USA, Expodefensa, CMI Road Show, etc.) The Agueris Team is responsible for execution
Date and scope of implementation Frame line and specifications: June 2017 V0 developments: July/ August 2017 First presentation, beginning of September (CMI Convention University of MEDEF) Finetuning V1: October/November 2017 Delivery of first VR goggles to the CMID commercial team: End of November Start of V2 studies in December: Version enabling interaction with the system notably by enabling vision of the hands (which may eventually lead to a Simulator lite )
Promoting the project and publicising it in the media Internally: Agueris VR goggles were presented from September onwards to all CMI executive staff (Convention) Externally: Presentation to the summer university of Medef including the French Minister of Defence and the Minister of the Economy. Presentation also to A-USA. Several presentations planned by Agueris and by the CMID commercial team Bruno Le Maire, French Minister of Finance and the Economy
Budget earmarked Project budget (up to the V1 version delivered): 130k This budget remains relatively limited due to the full re-use of the work done in the framework of the AB project (reusing 3D turret models) as well as opting for simple VR goggles which are easy to use
The project s lasting and reusable aspects The project represents genuine general interest for the CMI Group. It is one of the first solutions that specifically uses VR goggles technology which enables both creating skills and encouraging all of the sectors of CMI to look for applications in this field The solution is, moreover, progressive and should be able to follow the development of possibilities offered by the technology on the market for virtual reality tools
Impact measured The main impact is the marketing success expected during presentations An indicator could be the contribution to the increase in commercial contacts during trade fairs or improving CMID s image Lastly, another indicator could be the purchase of a lite simulator by a customer, based on the software and material of VR goggles
