1 ST JOHN THE EVANGELIST COUNCIL 7515 MORRISVILLE, PA NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2018 ACTIVITIES Baptisms - There were three baptisms in October o Brother Al presented the rose and rosary to the parents Charity - Our Council voted to financially support: o Hope Loves Company (ALS) COAL (Chance of a Lifetime) - We have until our November business meeting to turn in our tickets o Please bring them with you to the meeting Golf Committee - Our annual Golf Tournament Fund Raiser took place on September 24 th o Once again this event was a tremendous success o Over 100 golfers o Thank you to all our Brothers who volunteered their time Special thanks to the Golf Committee for an awesome performance Officer Installation On September 23 rd, Deacon James Hartmann Celebrated the Installation of our Officers Jim Price, our District Deputy, Installed our Officers A luncheon at Non Solo Pasta followed the Installation

3 UPCOMING EVENTS Memorial Mass This year s Knights of Columbus Memorial Mass Will be celebrated by Father O Sullivan On Sunday, November 11 th, at the 11:30 am mass. Father O Sullivan, the Deacons and Sister Marganne Have been invited to join us at the Luncheon, Following mass in the Deacon James Hartmann room. For Thanksgiving and Christmas It s time once again for our food basket program. We will hold the first round of sign-ups this coming weekend before and after each Mass. Brother Tom Rossi An American Hero Congressional Gold Medal Recipient On September 21 st at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6393 in Yardley, Pa, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick presented a

Tom was among 17 officers and 127 enlisted men who took to calling themselves Donovan s Devils They created havoc in the enemy s rear, disrupted communications and supply lines, organized resistance

4 Brother Tom Rossi An American Hero Congressional Gold Medal Recipient On September 21 st at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6393 in Yardley, Pa, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick presented a Congressional Gold Medal to retired US Army Sergeant Gaetano Tom Rossi for his service in the OSS, Office of Strategic Services, the precursor to the CIA and Special Forces during World War II. Tom was born October 18, At the age of 22, he passed his physical the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor and was in the Army by January He served in Washington DC before getting recruited by the OSS. He started in Africa, then Sicily, Corsica and finally headquarters in Bastia, Italy. Tom was among 17 officers and 127 enlisted men who took to calling themselves Donovan s Devils They created havoc in the enemy s rear, disrupted communications and supply lines, organized resistance and rescued Allied prisoners of war, downed air crews and nurses stranded in German held territory After being discharged from the Army, Tom settled in Newark, NJ with his wife Joanne, whom he married in 1946, and would be married for 68 years. He became a Knight in 1961 and served as the Financial Secretary for Our Lady of Fatima Council 5184 for 18 years. Becoming an honorary Life member, Tom has been a Knight for 57 years. And still attends our meetings at the age of 99. Tom worked for the Veterans Administration after World War ll for 10 years, while earning his college degree. He then worked for the Social Security Administration for 40 years before retiring.
