4 Dr. Robert Bullard Robert D. Bullard is Distinguished Professor of Urban Planning and Environmental Policy in the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. He is often described as the father of environmental justice. Professor Bullard received his Ph.D. degree from Iowa State University. He is the author of seventeen books that address sustainable development, environmental racism, urban land use, industrial facility siting, community reinvestment, housing, transportation, climate justice, emergency response, smart growth, and regional equity. Professor Bullard was featured in the July 2007 CNN People You Should Know, Bullard: Green Issue is Black and White. In 2008, Newsweek named him one of 13 Environmental Leaders of the Century. And that same year, Co-op America honoured him with its Building Economic Alternatives Award (BEA). Professor Jennie C. Stephens Jennie C. Stephens is the Dean s Professor of Sustainability Science and Policy at Northeastern s School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs. Her research, teaching, and community engagement focus on social and political aspects of the renewable energy transition and responses to climate change. Her research focuses on institutional and cultural innovation in the energy sector, including gender diversity and energy democracy, and technological optimism and the usability of climate science in climate mitigation and adaptation. Professor Stephens is a Leopold Leadership fellow, and her book Smart Grid (R)Evolution: Electric Power Struggles (Cambridge University Press, 2015) explores social and cultural debates about energy system change (co-authored with Wilson & Peterson). Before Northeastern, Professor Stephens was on the faculty at the University of Vermont ( ) and Clark University ( ). She earned her PhD at Caltech in environmental science & engineering and her BA at Harvard in environmental science & public policy. Professor Joseph Tomain Joseph P. Tomain is Dean Emeritus and the Wilbert and Helen Ziegler Professor of Law. A highly respected professor and scholar, his teaching and research interests focus in the areas of energy law, land use, regulatory policy, and contracts. Tomain has written extensively in the energy law field. His energy related publications include: Energy Law in the United States of America (Kluwer 2015), Energy Law and Policy (2014), Clean Power Energy Politics: The Democratization of Energy (forthcoming), Ending Dirty Energy Policy: Prelude to Climate Change (2011), Energy Law in a Nutshell ((2ned ed. 2011), Regulatory Law and Policy (3rd ed.2003), and Nuclear Power Transformation, among others. Dean Tomain also has published books entitled Achieving Democracy: The Future of Progressive Regulation (2014) and Creon s Ghost: Law, Justice and the Humanities (2009).

5 Professor Simon Caney Professor Simon Caney s research interests are in contemporary political philosophy. I have a particular interest in the ethical issues raised by climate change, and I have written a series of articles on equity and climate change. In particular, I have written on the relationship between human rights and climate change, the fair share of greenhouse gas emissions, the allocation of the burdens of combating climate change, the nature of our responsibilities to prevent dangerous climate change, intergenerational justice, the ethical issues surrounding some mitigation policies (like emissions trading schemes and alternative energy sources) and the nature of a just transition to a low carbon world (including on who can extract the remaining fossil fuels that can be permissibly extracted). In addition to this, I have worked on the ethical issues arising from the relationship between demographic change and climate change. I am currently completing a book on Global Justice and Climate Change (Oxford University Press) with Derek Bell. Nicola Swan Nicola Swan joined Debevoise in 2012 following her role as a legal advisor for the New Zealand Government on public international law and constitutional law issues at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade. Ms. Swan has experience in international treaty negotiation, and advises states, international organisations, companies and individuals on bilateral investment treaty disputes, constitutional litigation, business and human rights issues, and disputes engaging both public international law and national courts. Her experience is particularly in the oil & gas, energy, private equity and telecommunications sectors. Ms. Swan has represented the New Zealand Government before the United Nations at the international negotiations on climate change (UNFCCC), as well as at Antarctic Treaty and international fisheries negotiations. Ms. Swan's recent publications include Waking Up To Climate Change: Day-To-Day Considerations, The Drawdown (November, 2017); Climate Change and Dispute Resolution, International Bar Association Dispute Resolution International (October, 2017); and IBA takes leading role in increasing awareness of climate change justice, Journal of Energy and Natural Resources Law (January, 2016). She served as Secretary to the International Bar Association s Taskforce on Climate Change Justice and Human Rights. Alicia Elias-Roberts, Deputy Dean, University of West Indies Mrs. Alicia Elias-Roberts is currently the Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Law at the UWI St Augustine campus. She is pursuing a PhD in Energy and Environmental Law at Queen's University in Canada. She is a graduate of the University of Oxford in the UK and where she obtained a Masters in Law Degree and is the recipient of an LLM in Energy, Environment and Natural Resource Law from the University of Houston in Texas, USA, where she was an OAS/LASPAU scholar. She also has a Certificate in Legislative Drafting from the Commonwealth Secretariat and the University of Guyana and a Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning from the University of the West Indies. In 2015 Mrs Elias Roberts was awarded a United Nations fellowship in International Law, in The Hague, The Netherlands. Mrs. Elias-Roberts also has a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School and is admitted to practice in Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and New York. Alicia has served as a legal consultant for the Trinidad and Tobago Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (TTEITI), the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries in Trinidad and Tobago, the Guyana Oil and Gas Law Association, the World Wildlife Fund, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, UNAIDS, ILO and various governments in the Commonwealth Caribbean. She has over 15 years experience as a law lecturer and was a former Head of Department of Law at the University of Guyana.
