Since joining in 2005 I have served this organization with poise, professionalism, dedication and a heart for children. I run for the Office of Regional Director with great humility truly believing I am prepared. As the Langston Hughes poem states, life for me ain t been no crystal stair, it s had tracks in it, splinters and boards torn up.. I did not take the elevator to this opportunity but climbed each stair of SERVICE; service as a Group Mom, Committee Chair, Recording Secretary, Vice President and President; Service on a National and Regional Committee, service as a Teen Advisor and currently as your Regional Secretary. Every experience and position has ensured I acquired the skills to serve as your RD. 6

7 What professional and/or leadership experience do you have that is relevant to the office you seek? As the current Human Resources Director for a city, I have over 17 years of experience working collaboratively at all levels to create and implement organizational strengthening changes. I was awarded the 2015 National H.R. Award of Excellence for my city for innovation and streamlining processes. As the Regional Secretary I have successfully worked with all levels of this organization across the nation and have made significant and respected contributions to the Far West Region during my first term in office. I am committed, collaborative, exude leadership and will work hard to continue achieving results if chosen as your R.D. List your Jack and Jill involvement. I have had consistent involvement in this organization in a leadership role. I will create opportunities that embrace the intrinsic value of our organization while maintaining the inherent key of fostering leadership and legacy for our children. I would be honored to support our ideas, celebrate our work, and nurture relationships that transcend membership and chapter boundaries. Since joining Jack & Jill, I have served with consistent participation at the Chapter, Regional and National levels, demonstrating commitment to our organization. Mothers coming together to produce worthwhile programming ignites my pride for our Fabulous Far West region and regular recognition at the national level is a milestone we will achieve together. As your Regional Director, I will continue the legacy of our founding member Marion Stubbs Thomas as we enter our 78 th year of dedicated service to our children. 10 What professional and/or leadership experience do you have that is relevant to the office you seek? I am a tenured Professor of Career Technical Education, Academic Senator, Orientation Coordinator, Mentor, former Department Chair and International Educator. My ability to communicate genuinely and build relationships across regions that will improve our organization, are important attributes of a Regional Director. Twelve years of membership has prepared me to successfully and effectively fulfill the duties of this office. As National Protocol Chair I support the National Executive Board to enhance protocol practices. My goal is to lead with Dedication, Inspiration, Vision, and Authenticity (D.I.V.A) and keep the true spirit of Jack & Jill of America, Incorporated always relevant. I believe the membership needs and expects best practices, tools, training and infrastructure to manage the data and reporting of Jack and Jill, and I am willing to work in pursuit of such goals. I also seek to be a strategic partner to not only our Chapters, but also our Regional and National leadership teams, in the planning and pursuit of powerful programming. I want the value of the investment of membership in our illustrious organization to be realized by all mothers, as we work, play, and live to enhance the lives of our families and communities through service. 12

13 What professional and/or leadership experience do you have that is relevant to the office you seek? I am a business professional whose career has spanned the public and private sectors. I am currently the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services and Operations for the Hayward Unified School District. My responsibilities include managing the financial management and reporting functions of the organization. I have also held the role as treasurer for my local Jack and Jill and Sorority chapters, in addition to other community service groups. My leadership ability to strategically meet the goals of an organization requires working successfully with people and enhancing opportunities for collective success and financial fortitude. List your Jack and Jill involvement. I am a legacy member of the Greater Vallejo Chapter and have maintained active membership since I have been a Group leader at each level, and began my executive board career as the Recording Secretary. I was elected Program Director for four years, and subsequently Treasurer for two. I have also been the chapter parliamentarian and chaired several committees, including Central Area Workday. I have also served as the Regional Polices and Procedures Chair, serving on the National Policies and Procedures Committee. Additionally, I was a Chapter President, and am currently the Regional Treasurer for the Far West Region. 13

Professionally I specialize in documenting procedures for our workforce to follow. I can add value by creating efficient ways to collect membership data, distribute concise and easy-to-follow documentation and provide innovative ways to make our team available to our members. As a charter member of my chapter, I ve held various offices including President and have served as the Regional Editor. I currently serve as our region s Technology Chair and have updated our website and provided insight to the NEB to improve our existing Member Information System. I hope to bring the skills, professionalism and grace developed from these previous experiences. 15

16 What professional and/or leadership experience do you have that is relevant to the office you seek? My professional experience includes a 15+ year career in Information Technology with a 10 year emphasis in Healthcare Administration. As a Project Manager, I ve been responsible for automating manual processes that provide efficiencies to process millions of dollars on a monthly basis. I m familiar with researching computer software that will assist our Regional Team to be leaders in improving ways we handle our membership and brand. I m always eager to embrace new ideas and believe they can all add value. Ideas, Words and Action can change the world! List your Jack and Jill involvement. I currently serve as the Far West Region representative for the National Technology Committee, Chapter Treasurer and Co-Chair for the 2015 Southern Area Work Day. Regional Involvement: Regional Editor ( ) Chapter Involvement: Charter member of Santa Clarita Valley/Antelope Valley Chapter, Chapter President, Editor, Group 1 Chair and Parliamentarian. I ve been on a host of chapter committees as well as helped plan and execute the 2012 Children s Cluster. 16

This principle guides my decision to pursue the office of National Endorsed candidate. My Jack and Jill experiences range from Interest group coordinator to Regional Member-At-Large. There is still work to be done and I am willing and prepared to lead in those efforts. My collaborative spirit, goals oriented approach and sense of humor are key to my successes. I ve developed strong, positive relationships throughout the country as regional program chair on the National Program Committee and MAL Liaison for Foundation. I have the skills, temperament and time to serve as well as the support of my chapter and family. I am pursing this office because I desire to represent the region in the manner in which I strive to live in excellence. 19

20 What professional and/or leadership experience do you have that is relevant to the office you seek? I m blessed to have had a plethora of experiences in higher education as Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Director of Multicultural Student Services and Director of Career Services in addition to serving as tenured faculty in the Counseling department. I possess strong communications skills and an ability to forge successful partnerships. As a collaborator, I am able to engage in difficult dialogues and still accomplish goals. My experiences have honed my appreciation for diverse ways of thinking and cultures, which are important values for our organization. I enjoy maximizing individual accomplishments of others. 22 2015 Election Rules No campaign material is allowed in or around the room designated for voting. Delegates must remove all campaign material from in and around their table once the election process begins. Also, all campaign material that is being worn or displayed in the room must be removed at that time as well. A single ballot will be used in the election process, which means that all of the candidate s names will appear on one (1) ballot per office starting with the office of: Regional Director, followed by, Regional Treasurer Regional Secretary Regional Member-At-Large National Endorsed Candidate Officers shall be elected by majority vote 50% + 1 (of the delegates present and voting). In the event of a tie, the committee will continue the voting process until a winner is declared. The process will be conducted as follows: If the 1 st ballot yields a tie, a second vote will be taken for the position that has a tie. If the 2 nd ballot yields a tie, a third vote will be taken for the position that has a tie. If the 3 rd ballot yields a tie, the Nomination Committee will ask the candidate one question. They will have one (1) minute to respond. The Regional Timekeeper will be responsible for keeping track of the response time. Afterwards, a fourth vote will be taken for the position that yields a tie. Winners will be announced by the Chair (Regional Director), at the conclusion of the entire Primary election process. 22
