2 Welcome to Digitalising Manufacturing 2017 Digital Manufacturing is already here but is your business ready to take full advantage and be at the forefront of this exciting new era? Expanded to two days, our new-look conference features a diverse agenda of presentations, workshops, panel discussions, digital manufacturing demonstrators and networking opportunities. The opening day will examine policy, skills and best practice, while day two will focus on how to drive digitalisation in your business. The programme has been designed to help you explore the policy driving the digital era, as well as providing key information and know-how for those looking to be part of this must-do technological revolution. A key focus of the conference is to engage industry, particularly SMEs, in the digital revolution and to provide practical knowledge and support to get businesses primed for the digital journey. To that end, on day two we will be running interactive workshops on each of our key themes: } Skills and training } Cyber security } Connectivity and interoperability } Use and value of data analytics } New business and ecosystems Led by our expert speakers, the workshops will provide practical guidance for end users. 6 Speakers Keynote Speaker: Prof. Juergen Maier, Chief Executive, Siemens plc Juergen Maier was appointed Chief Executive of Siemens plc on 1 July He has been a member of the Siemens UK Executive Board since 2008, and held senior roles within Siemens in the UK and Germany including Managing Director of Industrial Activities for the UK and Manufacturing Director of the award-winning drives factory in Congleton. Juergen is a passionate advocate of the UK rebalancing its economy and has supported many UK-wide initiatives championing manufacturing, improved infrastructure and engineering skills. He has been asked by the Government department BEIS to lead a new review on Industrial Digitalisation for UK Manufacturing, which will be unveiled this autumn. Day One: Dr. Clive Hickman, Chief Executive, MTC Prior to joining the MTC in January 2011, Clive Hickman had over 35 years engineering experience in several roles within the automotive industry, culminating in the position of Head of Engineering for Tata Motors in India. He has a first class honours degree and PhD in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA. He was a senior engineer with Rover Group before becoming Engineering and Group Operations Director at the Motor Industry Research Association working on product development and later joining Ricardo Consulting Engineers, where he held a seat on the board of Ricardo plc and was managing director of Ricardo UK Ltd. During his career he has worked on a wide range of vehicle programmes including the development of a unique Bentley which, along with Dr Phaefgan of VW, he presented to HM the Queen in Eva Lindström, State Secretary, Swedish Ministry for Enterprise and Innovation Eva Lindström is State Secretary to Mikael Damberg, Minister for Enterprise and Innovation and head of the Ministry. She has been in the role since 2014 and her areas of responsibilities include: company management, competition, intellectual property rights and framework condition, capital supply and state ownership of enterprises. Prior to her current role, she was the inquiry chair for an Inquiry on ownership requirements for enterprises in the welfare sector. During a long and distinguished career, she has held a number of roles within the Swedish Government including Auditor-General, Budget Director, Ministry of Finance and Director, Budget Department, Ministry of Finance. She has also held a number of other roles outside of government including deputy chair, Swedish Fiscal Policy Council; chair of the control committee, Nordic Investment Bank and deputy chair of the governing board, Swedish Transport Administration. Eva graduated economics, business economics, statistics and economic history from Stockholm University. Dr. Lina Huertas, Head of Technology Strategy for Digital Manufacturing, MTC Lina Huertas focuses on driving the creation of value in the UK through the digitalisation of UK industry. This includes shaping the UK national strategy and policy, leading the relevant activities of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult and running the MTC corporate strategy on Digital Manufacturing. In the past three years she has formed and led different engineering and technology teams that offer unique capabilities to develop and mature technological solutions for the UK manufacturing sector. Her experience includes a PhD in the application of simulation and informatics solutions to support manufacturing, and 12 years experience delivering industrial projects that generated business benefits on the back of digital technologies. Lina is a Fellow of the IMechE and has a first class honours degree and a master s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
7 Day Two: Prof. Ken Young, Technology Director, MTC Ken Young oversees a programme of research at the MTC, delivering innovative technology from TRL4 to TRL7. The aim of this is to mature research from laboratory demonstrator level, through to a proven process operating at volume. Prior to joining the MTC at the start of 2011, Ken spent 20 years at Warwick University working with WMG. Here he ran a large number of industrial research projects in the automotive, aerospace, horticulture and pharmaceutical sectors. He successfully ran projects funded by EPSRC and the European Union amongst others and was the director of the EPSRC-funded Warwick Innovative Manufacturing Centre for seven years. This centre delivered projects worth over 8M in environmentally friendly vehicle technology. Dr Steven Barr, Managing Director, Hennik Edge Steven Barr is a business leader, consultant, analyst, coach and trainer with over 30 years of experience in the development and operation of major programmes and projects. Steven leads Hennik Edge, a new consultancy service from Hennik Group, publishers of The Manufacturer. Hennik Edge provides a collaborative support network for UK manufacturers which leverages Hennik Group s unrivalled position as a trusted friend to producers and service providers across the industry. Steven will be the moderator for the presentation sessions during day two of the conference. Lars Nagel, Managing Director, Industrial Data Space Association Lars Nagel joined the Industrial Data Space Association in Prior to this, he has held senior positions at EffizienzCluster Management GmbH (ECM) a leading edge cluster formed by the German Ministry for Education and Research with a total project volume of 100M, 120 participating companies and 12 research institutions. The Industrial Data Space Association was founded in February The Industrial Data Space Association ensures that the special economic interests of business are specifically integrated into the research work undertaken by the organisation, while ensuring that companies can access the results of the research into Industrial Data Space more quickly to support implementation. Chris Biddle, Global Business Development Manager, ATS Global Chris Biddle is a thought leader in manufacturing systems for the aerospace and defence sector. The majority of his 26-year career in the industry was spent at Rolls-Royce, where he held numerous roles in project management, IT and manufacturing. He led the Manufacturing Systems Centre of Competence, accountable for the selection, standards, implementation and support of manufacturing engineering and shop floor systems across all products and parts of the lifecycle, and a global community of specialists. Christian Warden, Head of Skills Development, MTC Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre Christian Warden has more than 20 years of management experience and success as a senior manager. Prior to joining the MTC, Christian was Group Head of Technical covering the UK at Semta the Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies Alliance. Previous positions include, Director of Engineering for EEF, UK Operations. Christian s operations management was preceded by roles in engineering training provider management, public relations, external affairs and engineering. Lokesh Payik, Chief of Business - Connected Industry, Emerging Markets, Robert Bosch Engineering & Business Solutions Lokesh Payik is Chief of Business for Industry 4.0 for emerging markets with Bosch. He is responsible for establishing and scaling up the business in India, Mexico, Turkey, South Africa and ASEAN countries. He has been instrumental in setting up the business leveraging Bosch competencies in IoT technologies, augmented reality, product development and user experience. He oversees a team, which translates futuristic vision into digitalisation initiatives for the emergent context. He has over a decade s experience in managing and scaling up business; working with new age technologies like Internet Of Things & Services, Augmented Reality and User Experience. Lynne McGregor, Innovation Lead for Manufacturing and Materials, Innovate UK Lynne McGregor has been with Innovate UK for over four years and specialises in the take up and innovation of digital tools and approaches in manufacturing. Prior to this, Lynne spent eight years at Imperial Innovations, providing incubation services for start-up companies, leading seed investment rounds, and serving on spin-out company boards, where she helped troubleshoot early stage challenges in these companies. Prof. Sam Turner, Chief Technology Officer, High Value Manufacturing Catapult Sam Turner joined the HVM Catapult team in December 2016 from his role as CTO of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing, where he worked on a range of projects and capabilities including the flagship digital facility Factory 2050, machining, casting and composites technology. As a founding member of the AMRC, Sam developed the AMRC s Machining Group to its current level of 85 staff and 5M turnover, with successes in delivering impact to UK industry, before moving into the CTO role. In addition to his industrial work, Sam has secured Innovate UK, EPSRC and EU funding of more than 20M for manufacturing R&D in machining and automation. He has written over 40 publications, including 16 journal papers in the area of machining.
