5 Report on Shaw Festival Scholarship Fundraiser Early in 2013, the WC Board proposed to Sylvia Johnson that she organize a fundraiser to the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the Lake in Ontario, Canada. Sylvia, having organized trips to this location before, agreed and thus the wheels were put in motion. On October 2, 3, and 4, 2013, the Thomas Limousine Company transported 34 people on a luxury bus to Niagara-on-the-Lake, where we stayed at the historic Victorian hotel, Prince of Wales, established in Our stay allowed shopping, sightseeing, theatre-going, wine-tasting, dining, and walking around the town of Niagara, said to be The Prettiest Town in Canada because of the beautiful flowers that are planted along the streets and in planters hanging from lampposts. A short walk takes one to the banks of Lake Ontario, to the Queen Royal Park, or Fort Mississauga, and on the way the sight of lovely old homes can be enjoyed. Shops along Queen Street offer something for everyone chocolates, clothing boutiques, cosmetics, jams and jellies, artwork, sculptures, novelties, sweets, kitchen items, jewelry, wine, and lots of restaurants. While we had two dinners and one breakfast as part of the package, we had ample opportunity to try various cuisines. Depending on show choices, we saw either Our Betters, Guys and Dolls, Enchanted April, or Trifles. Before re-entering the U.S., we were able to shop at the Duty Free shop at the border. A successful fundraiser indeed our endowment was increased by $4,700 for scholarships! Thank you to all those people who went on the trip! --Martha Vye Photo Gallery Coreopsis as seen at Springfield Park by Hiking Group in 2011 Think Spring! 5
