1 CAPEL MANOR COLLEGE GOVERNING BODY JOHN F. BENNETT F.C.I. Hort., A.H.R.H.S., F.L.S. John Bennett is a member of the Academic Committee and has a specific interest in quality and curriculum issues as well as the overall academic strategy of the college. A B.Sc. (Reading) graduate in Horticulture, he has an extensive Educational and Horticultural professional background and was a Lecturer, Assessor and Examiner over a number of years ( ), working closely with Qualifications Bodies, colleges and the Royal Horticultural Society in relation to their examinations. John was Deputy Director for Derby Parks ( ) and Brighton Parks ( ); Hon. Treasurer/Hon. Secretary of the Institute of Horticulture ( ). John became an HM Inspector for England, Wales and Northern Ireland ( ) followed by a busy Consultancy in Education and since 1997 an assessor for AoC Beacon Awards. HEATHER BARRETT-MOLD OBE Dr Heather Barrett-Mold is a former Principal of a land-based college and is now an independent consultant focusing predominately on the learning and skills sector. She has been the Chair of the IES Council (Institution of Environmental Sciences), now Vice President, and a Secretary of State appointment to the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Conservation Board. Heather is a board member of Perennial and of the Science Council. She was a co-opted expert for the Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 and was previously President of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture. Her passion for the environment and for science is long standing. She is Vice Chair of the Academic and Strategy Committees and a member of the Health and Safety DR BERYL DE SOUZA Dr Beryl De Souza was appointed as a Governor at the Governing Body meeting on 4 April She is a Member of the Audit Dr De Souza is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Plastic Surgery at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. She is involved in a number of organisations including the Medical Women s Federation (MWF) of which she is Honorary Secretary for the London region, the British Medical Association (BMA) of which she is a member of the Community Care Committee and Trustee of Enfield Racial and Equality Council (EREC). She has a strong interest in education and is keen on the promotion of Capel Manor College to the local communities and to a wider network. PAUL CAMPBELL Paul-Anthony Campbell is a landscape and urban designer. His horticultural career began at Capel Manor 27 years ago. Paul has Bachelors and Masters Degrees in spatial planning, urban environmental design and landscape architecture together with three diplomas in horticulture and landscape design. He is currently the Parks Projects and Strategy Manager

Paul is also an advisor to the National Trust Historic environment Group.

2 at Brighton & Hove City Council, where his team recently secured 4 million pounds from the Lottery fund for Stanmer Park (2017). He previously worked for the Mayor of London as an urban design advisor in the London Development Agency and Transport for London for six years. Paul is also an advisor to the National Trust Historic environment Group. At Capel Manor Paul chairs the Health and Safety Committee and is a member of the Audit DAVID DOMONEY FCI HORT David Domoney is a television gardening personality. David is a Chartered Fellow and Ambassador of The Institute of Horticulture and sits on the Royal Horticultural Society Commercial Board. He pioneered the Young Gardeners of the Year competition in association with the Princes Foundation for Building Community (now in its ninth year). Over 750 students from around Britain have had first-hand experience building show gardens, David has won 30 Royal Horticultural Society Medals for his show gardens to date, including gold at Chelsea Flower Show. He has an award from Prince Edward for Excellence in Horticulture. DOUGLAS FUSSELL Douglas Fussell has a personal interest in the College and the Gardens both from a horticultural point of view and the amenities provided to the community. He is a Chartered Accountant and former Managing Partner of the Enfield office of Moore Stephens, a national and international group of accounting firms. He is Chair of the Finance and General Purposes and Vice Chair of the Search, Governance and Remuneration Committees and takes a keen interest in the operation of the College, both from an Educational point of view and as a grounding for future careers in business. He is also a member of the Strategy Douglas Fussell is a former member of the Executive of the Enfield Chamber of Commerce, and an Honorary Vice President of Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Having started his working life in the City of London he maintains close contacts with the City through his former firm s City office and his membership of the Livery of the Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers. He is a long standing member of the Rotary Club of Potters Bar and is also involved in various other charitable situations. MALCOLM GOODWIN Malcolm was appointed Principal and Chief Executive in 2017 having previously been Deputy Principal at Capel Manor since Before that he led Horticulture, Arboriculture and Floristry at Moulton College whilst undertaking research into Agroforestry and was Course Director for Horticulture at The College of West Anglia. Before education Malcolm Goodwin was most latterly in charge of the gardens and estate at Borde Hill in Sussex and has also managed gardens, woodlands, landscapes, livestock and land based businesses at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Painshill Park and Windsor Great Park. His first career was in information and business systems and he worked for The Department of Health, Capgemini Consulting, The Channel Tunnel

3 Project, Thames Water, The European Space Agency and Carlton TV (ITV). He a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Gardeners, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture and a Fellow of the Linnaean Society. DON GRATTON Don Gratton is a member of the Finance and General Purposes and the Search, Governance and Remuneration Committees. Pro Rector and Director of Resources at the London Institute (now the University of the Arts London), he had overall responsibility for functions including estates development, personnel, library and learning resources and student services. A scientist by training, his teaching career embraced courses at both further and higher education. He is particularly interested in contributing to the College s thinking on strategic developments of its curriculum and the related requirements of its estates and human resource planning. ROBERT HOWARD Robert Howard is a senior compliance officer with investment management firm Charles Stanley & Co Limited. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (FCISI). He is a member of the Livery of the Worshipful Company Gardeners, where he sits on the F&GP Robert is an Alderman at the Corporation of London. He currently chairs the College s Audit GUY JONES-OWEN Guy is a member of the Audit Guy was appointed as a Governor in April 2018 and is now Vice Chair of the College s Audit Prior to this he served as the Independent Member on the Audit committee for 6 years. Guy has had an extensive career in banking, ranging from retail to private and commercial banking and headed up Santander s UK Merchant Acquiring division until Guy has recently taken up a position in Metro Bank where he is looking to expand the branch network across North London. Guy is a member of the Rotary Club, loves walking and cycling and is passionate about Capel Manor College where there has been a family connection for over 30 years. TONY LEACH Tony was born and raised in London. He read horticulture at Bath University where he developed an interest in landscape design. He returned to London to train as a landscape architect while working in four London Boroughs over eighteen years. Tony's interest in people, project management and business development led him to manage a variety of urban regeneration projects that took him away from the parks world. In 1999 he set up an independent business consultancy specialising in management and business development while he completed his MBA at Kingston. His passion for parks was rekindled in 2004 when he was appointed as Director of Parks for London, where he provides independent strategic support and advice to elected Members, green space managers and

He is a member of the Academic ROGER MCCLURE Roger McClure is Chair of the Governing Body, following important roles in further and higher education in England and Scotland. He is Chair of the Search, Governance and Remuneration Committee, Vice Chair of the Finance and General Purposes and a member of the Strategy Roger was Chairman of Janet (UK); Chief Executive of the Scottish Funding Council for further and higher education; and of the Learning and Skills Improvement Service in England; Pro-Rector of the London Institute (now the University of the Arts London); Director of Finance of the Further Education Funding Council; and of the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council; Financial Adviser to the University Grants Committee; and special adviser to the Parliamentary Education Select He has been a board and committee member of King s College London; the City Literary Institute; the Institute of Employment Studies; and the Business and Technology Council. He also has a keen interest in gardening and orchard/woodland management as he owns and manages a large garden himself. LADY MILNES COATES Lady Milnes Coates joined the Governing Body in December She is a member of the Finance and General Purposes Lady Milnes Coates is a recent Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Loriners and a particular interest with the Saddlery side of the College and is a member of the Cordwainers Advisory Group. DOUG TAYLOR Doug Taylor has a background in financial services issues from a consumer perspective. He was Leader of Enfield Council and 2010 until May He is currently a Councillor in the Borough. JAMES WISDOM James Wisdom is currently Chair of the Academic Committee and a member of the Strategy He is also Chair of the Friends of Gunnersbury Park and Museum and was a founder member of this Registered Charity in He has worked in Further, Adult and Higher Education and has held middle and senior management posts in two universities as an adviser and strategist on educational and staff development. He works as a higher education consultant and has been appointed a Visiting Professor in Educational Development at Middlesex University.

5 STAFF GOVERNOR ANDREW SMITH Andrew is the Centre Coordinator for the College s Crystal Palace Centre. STUDENT GOVERNORS MICHELLE BAVAGE Michelle is studying Veterinary Science at HE Level at Enfield. NIALL O DEA Niall is studying Arboriculture at Level 3 at Gunnersbury Park. HAZEL THOMAS Hazel is studying Animal Managements at Level 3 at Crystal Palace.
