3 Oklahoma AIHA 2018 Spring Conference The New Age of Industrial Hygiene Distinguished Speakers April 26, 2018 Kevin Sheffield is the Principal Industrial Hygienist at the Phillips 66 Research Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, and received his doctorate from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Kevin has over 30 years of experience providing health and safety support to biomedical, chemical, and radiochemical R&D facilities and to organizations conducting hazardous waste remediation and nuclear waste retrieval and decontamination services. He is a member of the ASTM International Committee F23 on Personal Protective Clothing and Equipment and Committee E56 on Nanotechnology and is on the executive leadership committee of the AIHA Nanotechnology Working Group. Dr. Prada Silvy, is Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Chasm Advanced Materials (CHASM), a carbon nanomaterial producer company. Prada Silvy also serves as a consultant at the Institute of Energy of the Americas (IEA) Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy, and an affiliate lecturer at the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Oklahoma. He is a world-expert in catalysis with more than 30 years of experience developing and scaling-up catalytic processes for oil refining, petrochemical and nanotechnology industries. Prada Silvy previously worked at SouthWest NanoTechnologies (SWeNT), Nanocyl S.A (Belgium), The Universities Catholique of Louvain (Belgium) and Central de Venezuela, consultant at Petróleos do Brasil (Petrobras-Cenpes), Procter & Gamble and Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA-CIED and INTEVEP). He received the PDVSA Creativity Award. He is the author of more than 30 international patents, some of them is currently industrial products, and has published more than 110 scientific and Oil & Gas articles. He earned a B.S in Chemistry with a major in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Central de Venezuela and doctoral degree in catalysis and material science from the Université Catholique de Louvain. Dr Jones joined the Biosystems and Ag Engineering Department Faculty at OSU in the summer of Dr. Jones research and extension programs include Safety and rescue techniques and equipment for grain storage facilities, among many other technical aspects. Dr. Jones research and extension program is known internationally. She is one of only a few grain storage experts in the United States. The connection between grain condition and safety for both structures and workers is a strong motivation for the equipment research and training she provides. She has lectured in different countries including the Middle East, China, Europe, and South America. New and unique force modeling techniques are a current focus for her lab and will lead to new safety equipment and methods for determining storage structure viability. Deborah Imel Nelson, a native Tulsan, earned her B.S.E.S. and M.S.E.S. from the OU College of Engineering, and her M.P.H. and Ph.D. in Environmental Health at the OUHSC. She has been certified in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene since Deborah has served as an OSHA industrial hygiene compliance officer and as a professor of environmental science at the University of Oklahoma. For two years she was an Occupational Health Scientist with the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. She recently retired as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for the US Department of Agriculture, Veterinary Services, which was heavily involved in highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreaks in 2015 and Deborah is a Fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, and is currently serving as AIHA President. Eric Esswein earned his bachelor and master s degrees in environmental health/toxicology and public health/industrial hygiene and is board certified in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene. He is the first named inventor for three patents in the area of chemical detection and decontamination, and air pollution control. Eric is currently appointed as Honorary Lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, School of Public Health in Johannesburg, South Africa.
