While it help can solve brick walls, it can t do it without the paper trail to back it up: Birth Records, death records, church records, court records Newspapers, Military Records. 4 MRCA In gene)c genealogy, the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) of any set of individuals is the most recent individual from which all the people in the group are directly descended. The MRCA of a set of individuals can some)mes be determined by referring to an established pedigree. In general, it is impossible to iden)fy the specific MRCA of a set of individuals, but an es)mate of the )me at which the MRCA lived can o^en be given. Such es)mates can be given based on DNA test results and established muta)on rates, or by reference to a non-gene)c genealogical model.

7 What is mtdna? mtdna refers to mitochondrial DNA which is passed from mother to child. While men receive mitochondrial DNA from their mother, they do not pass it on to their children. Tes)ng mtdna allows for inves)ga)on into your maternal line and can help iden)fy living rela)ves whose mtdna is similar to yours, as well as ancient migra)on routes your maternal ancestors may have taken.

9 YDNA Everyone has 23 sets of chromosomes. The 23 rd set determines the sex of the child. The other 22 are the autosomes. YDNA is a genealogical test of the Y chromosome found only in men, and is passed down unchanged from father to son. The theory is that everyone tested who matches you is descended from the original man in your line. And that every child was legi)mate and that no one was ever adopted or changed his name. Some)mes that happens. As with all DNA tes)ng, in order to have a match, some of your rela)ves need to be tested. One of the problems with Brick Wall and adop)on research is that you may not know who that missing ancestor is, or even know the name.
