Requested formats for dates and names used when completing your family history, based upon common errors found in submitted forms. For dates, please use the genealogical accepted format, i.e. 4 Feb Do not use only numbers as we do not know if you intend the date 2/4 as 4 Feb (US standard) or 2 Apr (British standard). Also use the entire 4-digit year, i.e instead 46, which could also mean 1846, depending on where it occurs in your history. The use of a 2-digit year is only used for the current century. Also, when citing female ancestor names, please use only maiden names and not the married spousal name. If the female ancestor was married previously and the maiden name is unknown, you may use her name from the previous marriage, which can also be included with a maiden name if desired. If neither is the case, omit any last name or use a placeholder, such as a question mark.
