2 Mon 9/23/13 AB1 & AB5 - Painting Warm up: List all the watercolor techniques or vocabulary words you can think of from Art 1. Last Week of the 1 st 6 Weeks Today s Objective: Continue watercolor techniques & vocabulary. (Next slide). 3D Objects with water color techniques. Begin a sky scape with the techniques. Closing question: What is your favorite watercolor technique & WHY??

3 Watercolor Vocab & Techniques 1. Wash Lots of water, little color, good for backgrounds. 2. Wet on wet- Using wet watery paint with wet paper. 3. Dry on wet- Using paint with little water on wet paper. 4. Wet on dry- Using wet paint on dry paper. 5. Dry on dry- Using paint with little water on dry paper. 6. Fade & blend- painting 2 colors next to one another and letting them blend together. 7. Value gradation- using black or another color to make a color darker, or using water to lighten. 8. Monochromatic value scale darks & lights of 1 color Make a color wheel & Label the following: 9. Cool colors- blue, green and purple 10. Warm colors- Yellow, red and orange 11. Complimentary colors- colors that are opposite on the color wheel.

5 Mon 9/23/13 B2 - Drawing Warm up: Write down proper shading & colored pencil techniques below: Proper Smooth shading techniques: Smooth small strokes, no white spaces, stay in the lines, maintain a consistent direction. Some Shading techniques: Smooth, Hatching, Cross Hatching, Stippling, etc. (we will practice more!) Proper colored pencil techniques: Fade out = Value scale with 1 color (dark to light) Blend = 2 colors fade together smoothly Tint = One color plus white (represents highlights) Shade = One color plus black (represents shadows) Today s Objectives: To review basic techniques & transfer them to a value study next class. Elements & Principles artwork due today! Turn in only if on separate paper. Keep in Skbk if you want to! While you are working I will grade your 5 spheres & 5 colored objects. Closing Question: What pictures, patterns, designs & symbols will you use in your mandala?

7 Tues 9/24/13 AB1 & AB5 - Painting Warm up: How is Wet on Wet different from Dry on Wet? Today s Objective: Continue watercolor techniques & vocabulary. 3D Objects with water color techniques. Begin a sky scape with the techniques. Closing question: How is Wet on Dry different from Dry on Dry?

8 Tues 9/24 A2, A3 Art 1 Warm up: List or Draw 5 small pictures or symbols of things that are meaningful to you. Last Week of the 1 st 6 Weeks Today s Objectives: Begin your mandala design! Finish your final Mandala piece. (Overlap designs to show space. Draw some designs to the edges so they will connect around your mandala. Use symbols and pictures meaningful to you). Sharpie favorite piece. If time, color. Then cut it out. On 9x9 paper, use a ruler and divide the space into 8 sections. Start with an X. Then Divide your 4 spaces in two. Use a compass to create your circle that fills the space. Trace your final 1/8 th piece 8 times onto your final Mandala Paper. Trace with pencil. Be sure to flip your piece so it fits into the sections properly. Closing: How did you show space in your mandala design?

Continue/Finish your Texture shaded spheres work sheet. 2. Begin a Grid Drawing Value Study you will need to show multiple value techniques in this artwork. Make sure you CHANGE things in the picture to make it your own! Closing Question: How do you begin drawing to avoid heavy unerasable mistakes? (Light & Sketchy!!)

(Skyscapes differ from cloudscapes because they do not necessarily include clouds. Like cloudscape art, skyscape art can also omit any view of land or anything else which might help to suggest scale or orientation. Images called "skyscapes" often do include clouds or land, but these things can also be excluded or kept to a minimum.) Today s Objectives: Begin/Continue sky scape in watercolor. (Due Monday.) You do not have to finish coloring before starting your project. Continue now. Today s Objectives: Continue Mandala 1. Divide your paper vertically & horizontally into 4 sections (mark off at 4.5 in) 2. Rotate your paper diagonally & divide your space into another 4 sections. 3. Cut your favorite piece (Sharpie front & back) 4. Using your final piece find where to place your compass and create your circle 5. Trace your piece 8 times. Flip & Trace to fill the space! 6.
