5 Syllabus & Supplies Now I will pass out a syllabus to each of you. This is a sheet with all important class information, projects we will do through out the year, and supply information. Take this home tonight & discuss it with your parents. The first sheet is for you or your parents to keep. The back sheet requires you & your parents to sign, fill out, and return. If you return this by next class I will give you extra credit. Supply Money should be brought on Sept 6 th & 7 th only.

8 Name Tents: Design your name & get to know people at your table! Fold your paper Horizontally Largely write your First Name with block or bubble letters Color & decorate (use supplies in bucket) Inside: Write 3 things & share at your table 1. Something about you. 2. What you did over the summer 3. Hobbies/activities you enjoy When I tell you, you will each stand up & share your name & one thing about yourself! *Please return all my supplies to the tub. Thanks
9 Mrs. Meisner s Class Rules & Expectations : Effort, Attitude, & Behavior will determine your grade & experience!!! Listen & follow all directions. Be RESPECTFUL of everyone - NO bullying, cussing, inappropriate comments, or conversations Be RESPONSIBLE for your work and supplies. Stay On-Task. If you take it out, put it back. If you make a mess, clean it up. Be ON TIME Tardy Policy (per 6 weeks): 1 st tardy - Warning; 2 nd tardy - Call home; 3 rd tardy - Office Referral (lunch detention); 4 th tardy - Office Referral (After school detention & loss of driving pass for 3 days) 5 th tardy Office Referral (Saturday school & loss of driving pass for 6 days) 6 th tardy Office Referral (ISS & loss of driving pass for 1 month) Music is a Privilege NO MUSIC or Ear buds while I am talking, teaching, demonstrating. Do not come in with ear buds in your ears. You may listen to your music only during independent work times. If you are not sure, ASK! *You are responsible for your own music devices. They should never become an issue or distract from your work or my teaching or you will lose the privilege. Keep volume low or else you will lose the privilege. Music should be school appropriate. Cell Phone Policy for my Room No texting or taking calls in my class for any reason; not even to your parents. No games, movies, videos, etc., even if you re finished working. No sneaking under the table or inside your backpack or purse. You MAY ask to use your phones to access online images for art references only. If I catch you breaking my rules I may take up your phone. I may choose to turn it in to the office or return it at the end of class. You may not have a cell phone out unless it has been approved by me. ASK FIRST. (Mrs. Fischer has approved for each teacher to have their own cell policy in their classroom).
10 Wear ID at all times: You must have ID to use the RR & to check out any of my supplies Rest Room Emergencies & leaving the room. Do not ask to use the Rest room unless it is a Real Emergency. If you have a legitimate Bathroom emergency then you will need to show me your ID, then sign the hall pass & take it with you to the H Hall Bathroom only. Use the H Hall RR. Otherwise, Do not ask to leave the room. You may not leave to go to your locker or get a drink or snack or walk around. Do not ask to go to your car. Do not go to the cafeteria RR or wander around the building. Emergency does not constitute getting a drink or snack or meeting your friend to talk. There will be teachers checking the halls for students out of class. Use the H Hall Restroom only Seating You may sit where you like unless there is a behavior issue. Then you will be moved &/or be assigned a detention. Be respectful to everyone & everything (even yourself). No bullying, cussing, inappropriate words or conversations. No forced bodily functions, or annoying distracting behaviors (tapping, beating). Do not write on the desks or my supplies. Do not bend or break my rulers. Don t roll around the room in the rolly chairs. Keep your hands to yourself. Don t touch or mess with other students or their art. Be positive. Keep an open mind. Don t say you can t do something. Just try!
11 Procedures: Come in quietly & get your art bin Put everything under your desk (except what you need to work on) leave walk ways & desks clear of bins, bags, jackets, & clutter. Choose the seat you want to stay in by next class. Warm-ups: Begin each class by doing the warm up in your sketchbook. Keep a warm up section. Get them from my webpage when you are absent. They will be graded either weekly, or bi-weekly. Follow all directions the first time given. LISTEN while I talk & teach. No earphones in. Stay on-task the entire class. No sleeping, horse-play, wasting time, working on other class work, playing on phone, distracting yourself or others. Do not put your stuff away until 3 min before the bell.
12 Talking: Talk quietly during appropriate times (please do not be loud or distracting to others) No Talking: During times when I want you to have a silent work environment please refrain from talking & allow yourself to be creative! Be prepared with your supplies & work on time (write your name on all your things as soon as you get them!) Stay organized! Keep your art bin, supplies, sketchbook & notes organized (this will help when things are due & test time comes around). Have a note, warm-ups & drawing sections in your skbk. Supplies Have all YOUR supplies each class & write your name on EACH ITEM after you buy them. Do not take anyone else s supplies without asking! (that s called stealing.)
13 To borrow supplies from me: Leave your ID on my desk. Return supplies you borrow from me & get your ID back Clean up after yourself. Put things back where you get them from. Put trash in the trash can & recyclable stuff in the recycle bin. You may get ready to leave 3 min before the bell. After you put your art bin away, wait in your seat for the bell to ring. Then push in your chair before you go. Do Not stand at the door to wait for the bell. Art Computer Lab: We have 7 computers for art research or digital art works. Ask before using a computer & before printing. *DO NOT Print multiple copies or non-art related material.

20 Image Folder: On the front creatively write your name & block. Use the front space to make a mind map about yourself. Fill your folder with images of things you like or find interesting that you can draw inspiration from throughout the year. Examples: Pictures, Designs, colors, textures, images, words, etc. You can also bring objects in from home to add throughout the year Fill with at least 20 things today Evaluation: Did you complete the mind map on the front of the folder? Did you fill your folder with at least 20 images?

22 Art Bin Instructions: Take a bin from your class cabinet. Put masking tape on the front and back of the bin. With Sharpie, NEATLY write your Full Name & block on both pieces of masking tape. Get your bin at the beginning of each class. Put your bin away at the end of each class. Keep all your supplies here. Return all my supplies to their proper place
23 Clean up 5 minutes before the bell: Keep your name Tent in your art bin. Put all my supplies back in the bucket: Colored Pencils, Markers, 2 Sharpeners, Ruler, Eraser, 2 Pencils, 1 box of crayons, scissors Return any supplies you borrowed from my desk & get your ID. Put your art bin back in your class cabinet. Sit back down and wait for the bell to ring in your seat. When the bell rings, please push in your chair! 24 Wed. 8/29/12 Painting: Mrs. Meisner Get your art bin. *Make sure your name is on both sides. *Put everything under your desk. *Please set out your name tent! Warm-up: As a group, on a white paper, List all the art related careers you can. Today: Finish Image Folder (Find a landscape picture) Paint color wheel & Color schemes Proper brush cleaning & clean up routines Due Today: Parent signed syllabus sheet Extra Credit for turning it in today only. *Consequences for tardies start next class.
25 Watercolor Assignment # 1 Put your name on your paper!!! 1. Color wheel using only primary colors 2. Warm color blend (Yellow, Orange, Red) 3. Cool color blend (Green, Blue, Violet) 4. Monochromatic Value Scale (The tints & shades of one color.) Use Red today & apply Red first. Then add black to the right side. Finally do a Wash (lots of water & little color) on the left side to make it lighter. *Name & Drying Rack. Then Proper brush cleaning!
26 Brush Cleaning Gently wash all brushes with warm soapy water. Rinse Replace to proper container with brush end up.
27 Clean up 5 minutes before the bell: Keep your name Tent in your art bin. 28 Friday 8/31 Mrs. Meisner Find the seat you will stay in. Put everything on the floor. Set out your name tent please Warm-up: In your sketch book (or on the small white paper) write down who your favorite artist or artwork is & Why! Then share your answer with your table. Today: Tardy Consequences begin today! Label & turn in color wheel. I will grade Image folder in class. Watercolor techniques Painting of choice; Landscape paintings if time Collect parent signed slips that were not turned in last class (No extra credit); Bring Supply Money 9/7
29 1.Wet on wet- Using wet watery paint with wet paper. Wet the paper with a clean water brush before you put the paint down. 2.Wet on dry- Using wet paint on dry paper. 3.Dry on dry- Using paint with little water on dry paper. 4.Dry on wet- Using paint with little water on wet paper. 5.Fade or blend- painting 2 colors next to one another and letting them blend together. 6.Value gradation-using black or another color to make a color darker, or using more water to make a color lighter. 7.Cool colors- blue, green and purple 8.Warm colors-yellow, red and orange 9.Complimentary colors- colors that are opposite on the color wheel. Red Green, Blue Orange, Yellow Purple
