1 Frankenstein PROJECT IDEAS Below is a list of NINE project ideas; choose one project to COMPLETE and PRESENT based on your reading of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. This is a MAJOR GRADE; projects will be scored on creativity, effort, and understanding of reading. 1) A B C book Create an ABC book from your reading of Frankenstein. Include a cover for the book. Each letter needs to have a simple description and an illustration that a small child can read or understand.. 2 2) Accordion Book Create an accordion book. Include a cover for the book. Each page should contain a picture or drawing, accompanied by text. Consider the elements of the story: character, plot, conflict, setting, and theme ) Book Board Game Design and build a board game based upon the events and characters depicted in Frankenstein. You might want to cover an old game board with tagboard. Create rules and playing pieces to make your game complete. Present the game to your class, and allow them to try their hand at playing a round

3 4) Collage Cut out numerous pictures that cover the contents of your literature circle book. Arrange the picture on a shape that has a connection to the story. The shape could be the outline of the country your story takes place in or perhaps an animal or plant, etc. The pictures should be glued in such a way that it is impossible to see the background. You may use magazines, printed pics, etc to compelte your collage. 5) Comic Book or Comic Page Make a page of comic strips which highlights the main parts of the story. Decide which events would need to be illustrated in a comic book for readers to understand the overall plot of the novel. You will need to draw, color, and plan out the words that each character will say in each comic panel. You may use a Web tool for making your comics. Bind your final product together using yarn, ribbon, or a spiral binding machine.

4 6) Diary Purchase a journal with blank pages. Take on the role of one of the characters from your book and journal and illustrate or doodle their thoughts. Cover the significant events; include a date for each entry. 7) Diorama Make a diorama of a significant scene from within the story. Cover the outside of a shoebox with either paper (construction, scrapbooking or wallpaper) or paint (acrylic works best). Both the outside and inside should relate to the story. Make colored drawings for the inside (back, sides, top and bottom) of the box. Your diorama must match the location or theme of the story. Illustrate a background that fits the location of your scene. Glue these illustrations to the back and sides before putting in your diorama pieces. On an index card, give a thorough description of the scene (character, incident, etc); attach to back or bottom of diorama. Pieces (character, etc) could be made from clay or paper.

5 8) Map Map of country with brief descriptions & pictures of events from the story in the location in which they happened. 9) Treasure Box Make a box to look like a treasure chest or decorate or cover a shoebox or another sturdy box with a collage of pictures that are representative of your book s characters, theme, or setting. Put items in the box which represent the story. For each object attach a description of the item and how it relates to the story. Ten items required.
