Once you have used a box you cannot use the same box again. At the end of the year you will have chosen 6 different boxes. 2 7 th grade Book Review Choices After you read your book, you will choose one of the following squares to give a review. Once you use a square you can not use it again. Please make sure you are following all the directions for each square. For some of the boxes there are additional instructions attached. It is your responsibility to attach the grading rubric to your project (2 pages). 1. Find top 7 websites a character in your book would most frequently visit. Include 2 3 sentences for each on why your character likes each of the sites. You must be able to explain why the character would have chosen the websites. Answer the Health Related questions on a separate sheet of 4. Create a Story Cube that describes the major elements of your book s plot. See attached explanation. 7. Create a comic strip of your favorite scene from the book. See attached for more explanation. 10. Make a poem about the story. 2. Create a playlist with at least 3 songs that represent one character from your book. Make a CD cover that includes a list of these songs, reasons why you chose each song and CD cover that represents your character. Answer the Health sheet of 5. Write a postcard from one character in your book to another about an event that happened in the story. Decorate the front of the postcard with the art that represents the character of your postcard. Answer the Health sheet of 8. Create a Facebook profile for one of the characters from your book. See attached for more explanation. 11. Write a script for an interview with the main character. Minimum of 10 questions. They must go along with the book. Answer the Health sheet of 3. Create a Trading Card for a character in your book. See attached explanation. Answer the Health Related questions on a separate sheet of 6. Create an alternative book cover for the book that you read. Your cover will include a picture, book review and summary of the book. See attached for more explanation. Answer the Health sheet of 9. Write a letter to a friend about the book. See attached for more explanation. Answer the Health sheet of 12. Write a scene that has been deleted from the book. Include a Health or PE topic in the scene. Print these 2 pages to turn in with your project. page 1

5 I. Trading Card a. Description: Create a trading card for one of the characters from your book. i. Step 1: Type this URL into address bar 1. ii. Step 2: Enter your name and click Start. iii. Step 3: Enter your character s name in the Topics box and choose al Person. iv. Step 4: Complete the 3 boxes under Description (Source, Appearance, and Personality). Make sure you write in complete sentences. Click the right arrow button when you are finished. v. Step 5: Complete the 2 boxes under Insights (Thoughts and Feelings).Make sure you are writing in complete sentences. Click the right arrow button when you are finished. vi. Step 6: Complete the 3 boxes under Development (Problem, Goal, Outcome). Make sure you are writing in complete sentences. Click the right arrow button when you are finished. vii. Step 7: Complete the 3 boxes under Memorable Interactions (Quote, Action, Interaction) and how the character is demonstrating or a part of a Health/PE topic. Make sure you are writing in complete sentences. Click the right arrow button when you are finished. viii. Step 8: Answer the questions under Personal Connection. Make sure you are writing in complete sentences. Click the right arrow button when you are finished. II. ix. Step 9: Find or draw a picture of your character and insert it into card. x. Step 10: Click Finish Editing. Click Finish again. Save a copy of your card on your computer by clicking Final Save. Print a copy of your card by clicking Print. Follow directions to assemble. Story Cube a. Description: Create a story cube that describes the major elements of your book s plot. i. Step 1: Type this URL into Safari or Firefox ii. Step 2: Enter your name and click Story Cube. iii. Step 3: Complete Side 1 Characters. Make sure you write in complete sentences. Click Next when you re finished. iv. Step 4: Complete Side 2 Setting. Make sure you write in complete sentences. Click Next when you re finished. v. Step 5: Complete Side 3 Conflict. Make sure you write in complete sentences. Click Next when you re finished. vi. Step 6: Complete Side 4 Resolution. Make sure you write in complete sentences. Click Next when you re finished. vii. Step 7: Complete Side 5 Theme. This can be a tough question to answer. If you re having trouble with this, ask yourself: What did the main character learn? What was the lesson of this story? Include how the character is relating to a Health/PE topic. Make sure you write in complete sentences. Click Next when you re finished. viii. ix. Step 8: Complete Side 6 Favorite. Make sure you write in complete sentences. Click Next when you re finished. Step 9: Click Finish. Save a copy of your card on your computer by clicking Save Final (Use file name: Story Cube YOUR NAME. Example: Story Cube Mrs. Bryant). Print a copy of your card by clicking Print. Follow the directions on the paper to assemble.

6 III. Character Playlist a. Description: Create a playlist with at least three songs that represent one character from your book. Make a CD cover that includes a list of these songs, the reasons why you chose each song, and CD cover art that represents your character. i. Step 1: Type this URL into Safari or Firefox dvd/ ii. iii. Step 2: Choose CD Cover and Color Ink Printer. Step 3: This is your Front Cover. Choose a template for the front of your CD. Next, you can use the Text Tools, Background Tools and Drawing Tools to decorate your cover. Remember: this cover should represent your character. (If you do not like drawing on the computer, you can complete the cover art after you print out the CD cover.) iv. Step 4: Click on Spine on the far right side. Choose a template for the spine of your CD. Use the Text, Background and Drawing Tools to decorate your spine. Make sure you include the title of your CD and your name somewhere on the spine. v. Step 5: Click on Back Cover on the far right side. Choose a template for the back cover of your CD. This will include your track list and the reasons why you chose each song, so make sure you choose a template that includes space for all of our writing. Make sure you are including the 1 song that related to a Health/PE topic. Be sure to include the reason you chose the topic and the title of the song. Use the Text Tools to write a list of the songs and your reasons. Decorate with the Background and Drawing Tools, but make sure I can read your writing! vi. Step 6: Click Print. NOTE this project cannot be saved on your computer, so check your work BEFORE you print it out. You cannot go back and change it later. IV. Postcard a. Description: Write a postcard from one character in your book to another about an event that happened in the story. Decorate the front of the postcard with art that represents the author of your postcard. i. Step 1: Type this URL into Safarior Firefox ii. iii. Step 2: Read the instructions and then click Next. Step 3: Type the mailing address of the character receiving the postcard. Use information from the book to make up the street name and city name if you don t know them. Click Next when you re finished. iv. Step 4: Under Image Title, describe what you will draw on the front of the postcard. Under Image Description, explain why this drawing represents the character who is writing the postcard. You can leave the box under Image Credit blank. Click Next when you re finished. v. Step 5: Write a letter from the one character (person from Step 4) to another character (person from Step 3). The letter should be about an event from your book. Make sure you write in the character s voice! (Example: If your character is really silly, the letter can be silly). Make sure you include how the character is faced with a topic from Health/PE. The letter should be at least 7 sentences long. Click Next when you re finished. vi. Step 6: Choose a stamp. vii. Step 7: Click Edit if you want to go back and change your work. Make sure everything is visible on the postcard.

7 viii. Step 8: Click Print. NOTE this project cannot be saved on your computer, so check your work BEFORE you print it out. You cannot go back and change it later. ix. Step 9: After you get your postcard, draw a picture on the front that represent the character who is writing the postcard. Make sure this drawing is what you described in Step 4. V. Book Cover a. Description: Create an alternative book cover for the book that you read. Your cover will include a picture, book review and summary of the book. i. Step 1: Type this URL into Safar or Firefox VI. ii. iii. Step 2: Choose Full Dust Jacket and Color Ink Printer. Step 3: This is your Front Cover. Choose a template for the front of your book cover. Next, you can use the Text Tools, Background Tools and Drawing Tools to decorate your cover. Remember: this is an alternative cover for your book. You should not copy the cover the already exists. (If you do not like drawing on the computer, you can complete the cover art after you print out the book cover.) iv. Step 4: Click on Spine on the far right side. Choose a template for the spine of your book cover. Use the Text, Background and Drawing Tools to decorate your spine. Make sure you include the title of the book and the author s name somewhere on the spine. v. Step 5: Click on Back Cover on the far right side. Choose a template for the back of your book cover. This will include your review of the book, so choose a template that includes space for all of your writing. Use the Text Tools to write your book review (what you thought about the book and why). Your review should be at least four sentences. Decorate with the Background and Drawing Tools, but make sure I can read your writing! vi. Step 6: Click on Front Flap on the far right side. Choose a template for the front flap of your book cover. This will include your summary of the book, so choose a template that includes space for all of your writing. Use the Text Tools to write your summary (a short paragraph that describes what your book is about). Your summary should be at least four sentences. Decorate with the Background and Drawing Tools, but make sure I can read your writing! vii. Step 7: Click on Back Flap on the far right side. Choose a template for the back flap of your book cover. You will include a brief description of the book. Be sure to include how the book or character is faced with a topic from Health or PE. Be creative! (Some ideas: your favorite scene in the book, an about the author page, a picture of the main character, etc.) viii. Step 8: Click Print. NOTE this project cannot be saved on your computer, so check your work BEFORE you print it out. You cannot go back and change it later. Comic Strip a. Description: Create a comic book strip of your favorite scene from your book. i. Step 1: Type this URL into Safari or Firefox ii. Step 2: Enter the name of your cartoon, the subtitle (the title of the book it s from), and the author of the comic (your name). iii. Step 3: Choose the number of panels for your comic strip. Your comic must be at least three panels. iv. Step 4: Create your first panel. This will be the first thing that happens in the scene from the book. You can use the three buttons at the bottom to add people, word balloons and props. Use the

8 VII. arrows on the side to change the backgrounds. If you don t find the pictures you want on the computer, you can also draw extra items by hand after you print out your comic. Every panel must include at least one picture, a word balloon, and a caption at least one complete sentence) explaining what is going on in the picture. One panel must include how a character or book if faced with a topic from Health or PE. v. Step 5: Repeat Step 4 until you finish all of your panels. vi. Step 6: Click Finish. NOTE this project cannot be saved on your computer, so check your work BEFORE you print it out. You cannot go back and change it later. When you re finished reviewing your work, click Print. Facebook Profile a. Description: Create a Facebook profile for one character from your book. b. Guide i. Step 1: Type this URL into Safari or Firefox ii. Step 2: Read the instructions and then click Create a Profile. iii. Step 3: Click al Character s Profile. iv. Step 4: Enter information under Your Name and Your Character s Name. Click Add Changes & Next when you re finished. v. Step 5: Read the instructions on the right. Enter the information under A Quote/Greeting and Song Now Playing. Remember: you re creating this profile for your character, so make sure your choices represent them! Click Add Changes & Next when you re finished. vi. Step 6: Read the instructions on the right. Create an About Me section for your character, using the instructions on the right as a guideline. Describe the character s personality, lifestyle, inspirations; family, etc. (Think about what you would put on your own Facebook!) Make sure you write at least four complete sentences and include specific details from the book. Click vii. Add Changes & Next when you re finished. Step 7: Read the instructions on the right. Create a Blog Entry for your character, using the instructions on the right as a guideline. Describe an event that happened in the story from your character s point of view. Make sure you write at least five complete sentences and include specific details from the book. Click Add Changes & Next when you re finished. viii. Step 8: Read the instructions on the right. Create a Favorites and Interests section for your character. You need to include at least five sections for your character. You can use the model as a guide, or be creative and come up with your own sections! Make sure you include specific details from the book. Click Add Changes & Next when you re finished. ix. Step 8: Preview your work. NOTE this project cannot be saved on your computer, so check your work BEFORE you print it out. You cannot go back and change it later. Click Print when you re done x. Step 9: Draw a picture of your character in the empty box.
