Chris and Edel Wigan Owners, Flying Fantastic Battersea and Farringdon districts, London Chris s Story Chris and his wife, Edel, left their hometown (London) to work for a charity in Argentina. While there, he began searching for a place to work out and was approached by a stranger who told him he should try circus training. His immediate response was, No, I don t think so. I can t even do a forward roll. After being baited with a free class, he eventually decided to give it a whirl. Three months later, still loving it, and equipped with a newly found six-pack, he was completely sold on circus training as an effective way to get fit. After roughly nine months of living in Argentina, Chris received a job offer he couldn t refuse, which promptly brought him and his wife back to London. Upon their return, Chris immediately began looking for a place that offered circus-style training, but quickly realized they were all highly performance-based. 3 The Challenge Still working a full-time job, and now running a business, Chris had a lot to juggle. When asked how he was able to manage it all, he told us, We began with one class, one night a week, which eventually grew to two classes, and now 15 classes with almost 170 students attending each week. Chris and his wife started out taking bookings over the phone, which was easy enough until someone needed to reschedule. Spending upwards of 50% of his time simply trying to manage their class schedule, Chris was in desperate need of help. How desperate? He told us, At one point we were getting about 250 s each week, all scheduling requests. And those didn t include the s we received about rescheduling or cancelations. Then he found MINDBODY fitness management software. The Results A lot of people try us out. Of those who come, 44% make it back, which is pretty impressive for something as niche as us. Circus training isn t a class most people would think to add to their fitness regimen. And due to spatial requirements, it s not something you ll see offered at your local gym either, yet Chris and his wife manage to keep almost half of those who try it out coming back. When asked how they were able to do this, Chris told us a familiar response, but went on to explain something a bit more peculiar. Customer service is the more obvious answer. When it comes to our customers schedules, we remain as flexible as possible. Then he told us about the importance of the number three. Three seems to be our lucky number. If we can get someone to come back for a third time, after their hands have stopped hurting and they ve gotten used to turning round and round, then we know we ve got ourselves a regular. 4 We ve seen a drastic increase (83%) in our revenue this past year. I think a lot of that has to do with changing how we book. Since using MINDBODY software, Chris and his wife have been using online booking, which has had a dramatic influence on his customers. Chris told us, I used to use my own system that was built for me. It was a nightmare because every booking required about three s, which became incredibly time-consuming. With MINDBODY s online booking, Chris s customers are able to adjust their schedules as needed without calling in or requiring any time on Chris s part. They also receive booking confirmation s with the date and time of their class. Every class can then be easily saved to their mobile calendar where they can set alerts if needed. We went from booking everything over the phone and via to strictly online booking. After spending hours on the phone and hours more fielding s with booking requests, Chris and his wife decided to take their schedule online, exclusively. This move allowed them to bring balance back to their business, leaving them more time to devote to enhancing the customer experience and to develop additional offerings. 5 We asked Chris how he went about making the switch and he shared a conventional, and then not-so-conventional approach. We send people to our website, which is pretty common, but we also took down our Contact Us page. He went on to explain that removing their number was essential if they wanted to push online booking.
