Backing 5 66 x 84 piece of batting Constructing Basket Blocks 1. HST units.

Place marked square, right sides together on a 2 1/2 C square. Sew 1/4 on either side of drawn line.

Make a total of (2) N/C units and (4) N/P units.

3 O Brown 1/4 (2) 2-7/8 x WOF strips. Subcut (24) 2-7/8 squares. Cut squares diagonally once to yield (48) half-square triangles. P Brown 1/4 (2) 2-1/2 x WOF strips. Subcut (18) 2-1/2 squares. Q Ruby 5/8 (7) 2-1/4 x WOF strips for binding. Backing 5 66 x 84 piece of batting Constructing Basket Blocks 1. HST units. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 2-1/2 N square. Place marked square, right sides together on a 2 1/2 C square. Sew 1/4 on either side of drawn line. Cut along drawn line, open and press to yield (2) HST units. Trim HST units to measure 2 square. Make a total of (2) N/C units and (4) N/P units. (Block uses (3) N/C units; reserve extra HST for subsequent blocks.) 2. Cut (1) 2 x 6-7/8 N piece on the diagonal as shown to make a trapezoid. Cut a second piece on the diagonal in the opposite direction to make a mirror image trapezoid. 3. Lay out (1) N/C unit, (2) N/P units, (3) 2-7/8 O triangles, (1) 2 x 6-7/8 N trapezoid into columns as shown. Sew the units into columns and join the columns. 2

4 4. In the same manner as in Step 1, make (2) HSTs using 4 N and C squares. Trim to measure 3-1/2 square. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 2 N square. Place square, right sides together and raw edges matching, at the C corner of the HST. Sew on drawn line. Trim 1/4 away from sewn line, open and press to reveal N corner triangle. 5. Lay out the pieced HST unit from step 4, (1) N/C unit, (1) N/P unit, (1) 2-7/8 O triangle, (1) 2 x 6-7/8 N mirror image trapezoid as shown. Sew the units into rows, join the rows, and add the pieced HST unit to the left side. 6. Sew the unit from step 3 to the unit from step 5 to make a half block. 7. Sew together (1) #1 N piece, (1) #2 A piece, and (1) 5 C triangle to make the opposite half block. Sew to the half block made in step 6 to make a brown block measuring 9-1/2 square. 3

5 8. Repeat to make a total of (12) blocks each in the following color combinations: Brown blocks: C/P/O/C Blue blocks: E/H/K/B Red blocks: G/M/J/D Tan blocks: F/I/L/D Quilt Assembly 9. Lay out (3) brown blocks and (3) tan blocks to make a row. Repeat to make a total of (4) rows. 4

6 10. Lay out (3) red blocks alternating with (3) blue blocks to make a row. Repeat to make a total of (4) rows. 11. Referring to Quilt Assembly Diagram on pg 6, lay out the brown/tan block rows alternating with the red/blue blocks rows. Join the rows to complete the quilt center. 12. Outer border. Sew (2) 3-1/2 x 72-1/2 N strips to the opposite long sides of quilt center, followed by (2) 3-1/2 x 60-1/2 N strips to the top and bottom. 13. With the backing fabric laying taut, place batting and then quilt top to form quilt sandwich. Baste and then quilt as desired. 14. Use the (7) 2-1/4 x WOF R strips to bind the quilt. 5
